The fates of veteran Aaron Rodgers and rookie Shedeur Sanders are intertwined so that analysts can’t keep their eyes away from the scenario. On the first day of the 2025 NFL Draft, they ignored the college athlete. Peter Schrager told everyone that the Steelers sent the right signals to A-Rod for not drafting the rookie. But is that the case? Not everyone in the Steelers camp agrees with his viewpoint. The Super Bowl winner visited them in disguise. It’s a mere speculation.
While talking about Steelers Nation Radio on April 24 about the next stages of the draft, owner Art Rooney II revealed that they are eyeing a running back or quarterback. That might open the doors for college player Shedeur Sanders. The team ignored him in the first round despite the player praising the coach and calling them a great team.
When asked tonight what position the Steelers could address in the third round, team owner Art Rooney II indicated on @FoxSportsPGH, “Running back, maybe quarterback.”

It also means that A-Rod is not ready to commit further. The owner hinted at moving ahead from their fixation on Aaron Rodgers as he said, “We’re still getting the same signals we have been getting recently that he does want to come here. I do think we may get word soon. Obviously, with things starting to crank up here with the offseason program, etc., if he is coming, we would like to get him here soon for some of that.” Hence, one thing is clear.
Aaron Rodgers is not ready to commit. While talking about his plans, he even claimed that retirement was not off the charts. But Mike Tomlin sees hope in the veteran quarterback. He believes that they can win this season if the experienced campaigner is with them.
However, the college player is also feeling ignited now. While the Colorado player has expressed confidence that he will get selected in the next rounds.
Steelers’ owner is not excited about Aaron Rodgers’ alternative
Pittsburgh drafted DT Derrick Harmon in the first round. While talking about the influence of any signal caller, Rooney added, “We did not factor in whether Aaron is coming or not into that (decision). If we do draft a quarterback — and we still might — it’s probably not going to be somebody who is going to start for us this year. It’s going to be somebody who is developing and may play down the road.” However, the hope continues.
