It’s no secret that Aaron Rodgers’ time with the New York Jets has been a rollercoaster. When the Jets signed the 4x MVP in 2023, the whole deal screamed ‘Super Bowl.’ The hype was unreal -Rodgers was supposed to be the missing piece, the guy who’d finally lead Gang Green to glory. But, well, reality had other plans. From the get-go, injuries kept throwing wrenches into the works, derailing what was supposed to be the dawn of a new era for the Jets.

Fast forward two seasons and things between Rodgers and the Jets are looking… complicated, to put it mildly. Expectations haven’t just fallen short, they’ve plummeted. So, where do the Jets and Rodgers go from here? That’s the million-dollar question swirling around New York. Now that the Jets have finally checked off two major boxes by hiring their new head coach and general manager, the curiosity around Aaron Rodgers’ future has reached a fever pitch. Enter Connor J. Hughes, a reporter for SportsNet New York, who’s dropped a little nugget of information. According to Hughes, the Jets might just spill the beans about Rodgers’ future as soon as this coming Monday

We know that things aren’t necessarily kumbaya between Woody Johnson, the Jets owner, and Rodgers. Could they smooth things over so they stick with Rodgers under center? We’re going to find out potentially as soon as Monday when the Jets plan to have their introductory press conferences,” reported Hughes.

So, is Aaron Rodgers sticking around, or is Woody Johnson ready to show him the door? That is something only Woody could tell. But let’s not ignore the elephant in the room, if the Jets do decide to part ways with Rodgers, who’s stepping in as QB? Former NFL player Keyshawn Johnson seems to think the writing’s on the wall. According to him, the newly hired head coach, Aaron Glenn, wouldn’t want to kick off his Jets career with Rodgers. Yet, Connor Hughes believes that the 41-year-old legend still has plenty left in the tank.

“No, Aaron Rodgers isn’t the dominant force he was with the Packers when MVP awards practically piled up for him year after year,” Hughes remarked. “But he remains a highly capable quarterback, a legitimate NFL starter. You’re looking at a guy who, despite dealing with two knee injuries, an ankle issue, and a hamstring strain last season, still managed to throw for nearly 4,000 yards and tally 28 touchdowns.”

While everyone waits to see what Aaron Rodgers’ next chapter holds, the Jets have been busy rotating the turnstiles. They’ve just brought in a new general manager whose roots trace back to the Broncos.

Aaron Rodgers’ Jets Welcome a New General Manager

After parting ways with Joe Douglas midway through the season, the Jets have finally landed on Darren Mougey as their next GM. The 39-year-old, previously the Broncos’ assistant general manager, will now step into his first-ever general manager role. Mougey’s tenure with the Broncos dates back to 2012. He climbed the ranks from scouting to the front office. He may be new to this title, but he’s no stranger to the grind of NFL operations. This role with the Jets, however, is a whole new challenge.

Mougey’s journey is easy to root for. He entered the league with aspirations of being a player. Even though he was undrafted out of San Diego, he still fought for a spot on the Cardinals and Falcons, spending some time on their practice squads. When his playing dreams didn’t pan out, he transitioned into the business side of football, starting as a scouting intern with the Broncos and working his way up the org charts.

Now, he steps into the chaos of the Jets organization—hardly a smooth landing. The big question looming overhead is whether Mougey will stick with Rodgers and try to optimize what’s left in the veteran QB’s tank or use his scouting acumen to find a new franchise quarterback. Either way, the pressure is on. We’ll wait eagerly to see which path he chooses to set the Jets on.
