Is Jerry Jones' regret over buying the Cowboys justified, or is it just post-game frustration?

Jerry Jones was left with a foul taste in his mouth after being treated to a disappointing display by his Cowboys team on Sunday. It might have hurt him badly, as Jones was expected to celebrate his 82nd birthday in style. Instead, he left the AT&T stadium, watching his team lose 9-47 against the Lions, thereby putting them on a losing streak of four games at home.

This might have led to Jones expressing his regrets about ever buying the Cowboys in the first place: “One of the stupidest things I’ve ever done, that anybody had ever analyzed was buy the Cowboys. It was an idiot that did that. So idiot things can turn into good decisions. Smart things can turn into bad decisions. The facts are when you make one, you don’t really know if it’s going to be good or not at the time.” Although this could be just a burst-out after last Sunday’s game, Jones did say the loss was “very concerning.”

It was back in 1989 when Jones purchased the Cowboys for a sum of $150 million. And after 35 years at the helm, his team is the most valuable franchise in the NFL, standing at $11 billion. What makes this more impressive is that the Cowboys are ahead of other franchises by at least $3 billion in terms of valuation.

With a record of 315-254, that includes 16 playoff wins and 3 Super Bowl titles during the 90s. Jones did change the fortunes of America’s Team, but these days, it seems like they are way off their past glories. Over the last three seasons, the Cowboys had only one playoff appearance. And since their Super Bowl victory in 1995, they haven’t returned to the grandest stage till now.

This makes us think about whether the 82-year-old has had enough of Cowboys underperforming over the years. Having started their season with a big win against the Browns in Cleveland at 33-17. The Cowboys are 3-3 after six weeks of NFL action, which throws a shade on their expectation to qualify for playoffs this season. So, will those Saudi Arabia takeover rumors before the start of this season come out to be true?

Saudi Arabia takeover rumors fly again in Dallas after Jerry Jones expresses regret

You would have to go back in July when Craig Carton of The Carton Show said, “I think they are preparing themselves for what would be the largest sale in history of North American sports. I don’t think they’re in it to win it anymore. I would not be surprised if we start hearing rumblings that Jerry Jones is going out to hedge funds and Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi.” Although those were personal opinions of Carton, hearing Jones express regret of buying the Cowboys. It might turn out to be true. However, it is still pretty “outlandish”, as per Sports Illustrated, considering its wavelength.

But the Saudi Arabia Investment Fund is actively investing in sports as they recently backed the LIV Golf League, which is a direct competitor to PGA. There have also been investments in soccer, racing, and cricket. So, ruling them out from acquiring the most valued NFL franchise wouldn’t be right. If Jones does want to sell the Cowboys, he would receive the biggest paycheck ever. And all the blame he had been getting over the years might finally be put to bed.
