The Chiefs are preparing to rest key starters in their regular-season finale against the Denver Broncos for Monday’s game. And it’s likely that Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes will miss out on the game. Speaking of the tight end, the Chiefs offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy, is all in praising him given his standout season.

“I’ve seen a bunch of them. This year’s season is as good as a bunch of them I’ve seen. . .” Nagy stated. “The beautiful part about Trav, he does not care about anything but winning. He’s extremely unselfish. How he takes care of his body throughout the week, it’s special.” However, it’s confirmed that the TE is all set to get benched as the OC wants him to take care of his body for this week.

Not to forget, the Chiefs have played three games over a couple of weeks earlier. Big thing? They went on to win all three of them. And following the Kansas City team securing the number 1 seed in the AFC, it all comes to rest the starters in the last game against the Denver team. More of resetting and preparing them for what lies ahead. The Postseason!

The 35-year-old tight end started in all 16 games for the Chiefs and had a pretty busy yet a solid season. Guess why Nagy wants him to rest before the playoffs kick start. Speaking of which, Nagy shared an anecdote after Kelce was rested against the Chargers last year before the playoffs. The OC stated, “He just came back into the Playoffs. All the guys, not just Kelce. But I remember him having just a little extra more and it’s critical when you can get to that point for some guys”

So far, he’s amassed 97 catches, 823 yards, and 3 touchdowns, with an 8.5-yard average per catch. As far as his postseason record is considered, which is nine consecutive years and counting, Kelce is gearing up for yet another stormy season. And you can’t blame him given the Chiefs are eyeing for a third straight Super Bowl title. And that’s where Nagy’s statement for Kelce does not care about anything but winning steps in.

What’s your perspective on:

Is resting Kelce and Mahomes a smart move, or are the Chiefs risking their momentum?

Have an interesting take?

In the absence of Mahomes, the backup QB, Carson Wentz, will take the command of the Chiefs. What will be Mahomes’ role for this week now, you ask? When asked his thoughts on the same, the OC stated, “I know in these times in the past when Pat can be on the sideline in these moments and kind of see from a coach’s perspective what it’s like. Sometime it’s a good reset for you, but he continues to make sure that he’s working his feet.”

Now here this out. Resting Kelce and Mahomes along with the other key starters will not affect the Chiefs, given they’ve secured the number 1 seed in the AFC. Anyway, the Broncos must be giving a direct look to this. With 9-7 and third in the AFC West division, the Denver team was surely hoping for a miracle ahead of the Monday clash. And as things stand, they’ve got one.

Just a few days back, the NFL has announced the playoff scenario for the Broncos. Guess after a crushing loss over the Bengals, the Denver team is still in the playoff race. Now, to secure a spot there, all they need is a win over the Chiefs or a tie. If failed to do so? Then the team’s fate will depend on either Bengals or the Dolphins.
