Just like in 2023, the Chiefs qualified for the playoffs before the season reached its end. And the HC Andy Reid decided to rest their starters. For the fans, it was a bit disappointing, as there were no Patrick Mahomes or Travis Kelce on the gridiron. However, the coach was thinking from the postseason perspective, and it appeared to be a wise decision. But the Broncos showed them why it was a totally wrong one.

In the season finale, they handed the Chiefs a drubbing by 38-0. A shutout! Fans went crazy as the game ended. They couldn’t believe it had happened. Even the HC couldn’t believe what he was seeing. During the post-game conference, he gave a clear message to his locker room, “That experience is invaluable against a good football team. We need to be better, obviously. But that opportunity is something that’s special.” Andy Reid is right.

Everyone from the Chiefs’ roster who played in the Sunday game will remember it forever. It’s hard to forget a shutout. They had a nearly perfect record this year with only one loss against the Bills in the week 11 game, that too on the road game. But no one expected this against the Broncos.

The experienced QB Carson Wentz proved no match for the rookie Bo Nix. Without any sack, the rookie had 26 of 29 passes in 321 passing yards with 4 touchdowns. Wentz only had 10 of 17 passes in 98 yards with no touchdowns and interceptions and 4 sacks. Nix had a nearly perfect QB rating of 152.4.

Overall, Andy Reid’s O-line totally collapsed. Though they were non-starters, this was a performance way below expectations. The Broncos had 479 net yards (321 passing, 158 rushing) while the Chiefs only had 98 net yards (71 passing, 27 rushing). Broncos’ WR Courtland Sutton alone had 5 receptions for 98 yards, while the best-performing WR for Chiefs was Nikko Remigio, with 2 receptions for 48 yards. Along with Sutton, 3 other WRs performed better than Remigio.

After the game, shock waves crashed into the Chiefdom. In the process, the Broncos also handed them some terrible records. It was crazy.

Andy Reid makes a record he would want to forget

Let’s rewind 18 years. On December 5, 2005, Andy Reid was on the sidelines as the Eagles head coach. They were playing the Seahawks who handed them a shutout loss by 0-42. On Sunday, he was standing as the Chiefs’ HC. This time, it was the Broncos who handed him a similar shutout game by 0-38. It’s the first time in 12 years as the Chiefs’ HC that he suffered such a defeat.

Overall, this is the 3rd game in the Broncos-Chiefs rivalry that ended in a shutout since 1960. And the Broncos are up 2-1 now. They looked like a team possessed. They needed a win to qualify for the playoffs and they got it, that too a big one. Though they failed to tie the week 17 game against the Commanders, Bo Nix and co. were ready this time.

The Chiefdom was silenced in a brutal way. After the regular season, the Chiefs are now 15-2. In his 25 years as an NFL head coach, this is the best regular season for Andy Reid. But he would want to forget the game with which it ended. It certainly made the season exciting.
