Andy Reid is moving towards a new phase of his NFL career. With Bill Belichick, Nick Saban, and Pete Carroll, having departed from their respective teams, after a long stint, all eyes are now on Andy Reid. The Kansas City Chiefs are just one step away to get their fourth Super Bowl win on Sunday. However, ahead of this game, many are speculating whether this Super Bowl LVIII will be the last for Reid or not.
Being here, at this stage, is evident enough to highlight that Reid has indeed helped the Chiefs to embark on arguably the most successful journey of the franchise in the league. He has helped Kansas City to reach 10 postseason appearances in his 11 years with the franchise – giving much of a Belichick-ian vibe. Now, as he is into another Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes, the retirement speculations are high once again.
Is Andy Reid retiring from the Chiefs?

This isn’t the first time when Andy Reid was asked about his retirement. Before winning the last year’s Super Bowl, Reid responded to his retirement rumors in a pre-Super Bowl interview with FOX Sports. He said, “I’m not getting any younger. I still have a young quarterback. I have a decision I have to make after this game.” Then the Chiefs won the Super Bowl against the Eagles. And coach Reid didn’t retire.
This time again, when the Chiefs are into the Super Bowl LVIII, the same question has come up in front of coach Reid, who is about to turn 66 next month on 19th March. This time too, he denied such rumors this week, saying, “My mom and dad told me this when they were working. They said, ‘You’ll know when it’s time,’ and I’m ready to go right now. Let’s go. Somewhere you’re going to know when it’s time. Today’s not the day.”
Furthermore, the Future Hall of Famer on Thursday expressed his current plan, saying, “I don’t think about that. I’m tied up in the game and trying to take care of that.” He has clearly stated that retirement isn’t on his plans currently.

Meanwhile, Reid also has two-year left in his big contract. He signed as a six-year extension in 2020 with the Chiefs to make $60 million. So, Reid would definitely not want to retire anytime soon. Especially when his favorite active quarterback of the franchise, Patrick Mahomes, is there.
The Reid and Mahomes era!
Andy Reid is about to turn 66 next month, and is concluding his 25th consecutive season as an NFL head coach. A potential win in the upcoming Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers could secure his third Super Bowl victory. Reid, with a stellar coaching career, spent his initial 14 seasons with the Eagles, reaching five NFC Championship games, and making a Super Bowl appearance. In his 11 seasons with the Chiefs, his team has made the playoffs 10 times, consistently reaching at least the AFC championship game for the sixth consecutive season.

The Super Bowl appearance marks their fourth in the last five seasons. With Patrick Mahomes, who was drafted in 2017, Reid has worked for seven seasons. Since Mahomes became a full-time starter in 2018, along with him, Reid has reached the Super Bowl four times. The duo has won together two Super Bowl trophies, and has the highest win PCT by any head coach & QB duo in the regular season.
Furthermore, as the HC said last year, ahead of the Super Bowl LVII win, that he still has his “young quarterback” with him, Reid cannot think of his retirement anytime soon. Under coach Reid, Mahomes has also become the youngest quarterback in the league to start four Super Bowls at just 28 years old.
