Are the Chiefs' Super Bowl hopes fading with key injuries and shaky performances?

It’s like the Kansas City Chiefs are cursed. Yes, they’ve won every game by now, but each of those wins came with a sacrifice. The Chiefs were already playing with a dearth of offensive players and this game took away a key offensive player from the roster. The loss has left the Chief’s head coach, Andy Reid, clueless about the future.

Jaylen Watson’s injury came in the fourth quarter and he was seen limping off the field. Other reports also suggested that he was using crutches to balance himself after the game. Andy Reid’s concern grows as he awaits the cornerback’s MRI, indicating a decline in the situation. The HC revealed more in the post-game presser.

“I think Jaylen will be, yeah,” said Reid when asked about Watson. “I mean, we’ll see what the MRI says, but I don’t think that’s going to be great news.” The cornerback had three total tackles before he left the game. In his absence, Nazeeh Johnson had to make it out of his role as a secondary and take more reps.

Chris Roland-Wallace and Joshua Williams were also among the few who got more chances after Watson’s exit. The cornerback room has been struggling for a while now and amidst the chaos, Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson held the cornerback position, but that’s also in jeopardy right now.

Just to recap the situation of the back-to-back Super Bowl winning team’s roster, they are missing Marquise Brown, Isaiah Pacheco, and Rashee Rice. In a turn of events, JuJu Smith-Schuster also fell victim to an injury on the offensive side of the ball. He was forced to exit the game in the first quarter due to a worsened hamstring injury.

This is arguably the worst 6-0 start to any team that we’ve seen in a while. But Patrick Mahomes is stepping his game up and that became apparent when he trucked the 49ers safety Malik Mustapha.

Patrick Mahomes is getting more physical

It’s really unmissable. It was 4 and goal in the fourth quarter, with 14:17 remaining. The lane was clear and the Kansas City Chiefs QB decided to run the ball in the end zone. Mustapha tried to stop Mahomes, but the QB shouldered him and the Niners safety couldn’t maintain his footing.

The 3x Super Bowl winner tried to downplay his strength and modestly said that he wasn’t trying to run him over. Maybe his dad bod is coming in handy these days. Honestly, it was surprising to see Patrick Mahomes pull that off.

After the 28-18 win against the San Francisco 49ers, Mahomes addressed the hit on Mustapha and said, “I wasn’t even trying to run him over. I was just trying to get in the end zone, but I’m a little heavy.” The Chiefs QB put together a 154 yard performance and also threw two picks while completing 16 of his 27 passes.

With this, the Kansas City Chiefs will be headed to play against their divisional rival, the Las Vegas Raiders. Mahomes will go head-to-head with Maxx Crosby. There’s very little chance that the QB will lose to the Raiders, but we’d get to see some hard-nosed football a week from now, so that’s exciting.
