You can go ahead and finally end your speculation on where Hollywood Brown could have landed in free agency. Why? Because he isn’t going anywhere. For quite some time, the Chiefs were stuck in a limbo, whether to re-sign Brown or not. But it seems Andy Reid is ready to give Hollywood another try in 2025. Hoping this time, Brown will deliver a blockbuster instead of the flop he gave in 2024.

Hours after Xavier Worthy’s controversy came out, ESPN’s Adam Schefter dropped the news surrounding Brown’s future in KC. He reported the Chiefs are re-signing Hollywood on a one-year contract worth $11M. Surprised? Obviously. This move is surely a gamble for the Chiefs on someone who never did anything last season to earn an extension.

Brown joined the Chiefs as a free agent last season, signing a similar one-year contract that was also worth up to $11M. At that time, it looked like an okayish signing. Brown was coming off two underwhelming seasons in Arizona, only catching 118 passes for 1,283 yards and just 7 TDs. However, the expectation was that playing with Patrick Mahomes could have brought back Brown’s 2021 season with the Ravens. It was his only best season where he caught career-high 91 catches for 1,008 yards from two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.

But Hollywood’s picture never really left its teaser. On his first play in the preseason, Brown suffered a sternoclavicular injury which needed surgery. Actually, it never looked like Brown would even manage to play a snap for the Chiefs. Still against all odds, he did recover and played two games in the regular season catching 9 passes for 91 yards. He also appeared in all of the Chiefs’ three postseason games but couldn’t leave a mark. Only catching 5 passes for 50 yards, horrifying numbers from someone who had just been offered another contract.

Maybe this could be a redemption arc for him. Something he also probably didn’t expect would happen. Neither the Chiefs Kingdom saw Hollywood Brown getting a contract, that too in KC. But there could be more to this contract. Like how come the Chiefs announce Hollywood’s new deal hours after their rookie sensation Xavier Worthy was arrested? Sounds fishy, right?

Xavier Worthy’s career in the NFL could be over after a single season

Worthy was supposed to find it tough to nail down a spot in the Chiefs offense. I mean coming into a receiver room consisting of the likes of Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown and Travis Kelce as options for Patrick Mahomes, Worthy got somewhat lucky, you know. Rice got injured for the season, Brown was injured for the majority of the season and Kelce—well, he kept on suffering even though he wasn’t injured. So, with everyone struggling, Worthy stepped up and delivered a superb rookie season. He finished as the best wideout option for Mahomes, catching 59 passes for 638 yards and 6 TDs. He also added 3 scores on the ground, rushing for 104 yards.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Hollywood Brown's new contract a smart move, or just a reaction to Worthy's arrest?

Have an interesting take?

Worthy had everything going for him. It was almost perfect. He could have easily been the leader of the Chiefs offense in his sophomore year. However, it looks like that dream is now shattered. Today the Chiefs WR got arrested on a third-degree felony in Texas. And as per the state law, Worthy could face punishment up to 10 years in prison if found guilty. A member of his family supposedly filed this complaint because he tried to impede their breath (basically choking).

But Worthy’s attorneys have since proclaimed their client is innocent and the charges against him are false. Well, the chargesheet also said the allegations were made by a female who was supposedly asked to leave his house multiple times after he discovered her infidelity. Worthy’s lawyer’s statements also read, “The complainant further destroyed a room in the residence, scratched Mr. Worthy’s face and ripped out parts of his hair, which there is photographic evidence of.” However, the Chiefs WR has since refused to press any charges from his leaving the case wide open.

So, right now the Williamson County Sheriff’s office is handling the case and more details are expected later. But whatever comes out of it, whether Worthy is found guilty or innocent. This incident will surely leave a lasting impact on his mental health. Imagine after a year where he was top of the Chiefs offensive plans. He is probably facing an exit not only from the organization but also the league itself. How sad!!!
