The Chiefs have put one foot inside the NFL record books. Since the Super Bowl era, they have become the first team to enter playoffs on their 3-peat run. The Ceasars Superdome in New Orleans will light up on February 9. But today, it was the Arrowhead as skies were filled with celebration as they won 32-29. It was a great game, living up to the expectations. At the 6-minute mark in the 4th quarter, both teams were tied at 29 each. While Andy Reid was smiling after the game, Sean McDermott was dejected. But the Bills certainly won respect.
Talking to reporters on the game, the Chiefs HC had a smirk on his face. He made his feelings clear for his Bills’ counterpart and said, “Our hats go off to Buffalo. Sean McDermott is a phenomenal coach. I’m proud of him. It was just a little bit short for them and we’re glad that it was.” That’s definitely right. Had TE Dalton Kincaid not dropped the ball in the 4th quarter, the result might have been different.

The Bills made every possible move for the game. They even brought in their cornerback Christian Benford, who suffered a concussion in the divisional game against the Ravens. But it didn’t work for them. He got injured in the 1st quarter, after suffering another concussion. That was one department where Andy Reid won the game.
He also planned a role reversal to surprise the Bills. Usually, it’s Josh Allen who finishes in the end zone with a touchdown. But on Sunday, Patrick Mahomes was the rusher. Surprisingly, he finished the game with 2 rushing TDs. The Grim Reaper was 2nd best rusher for them, with 11 rushes for 43 yards.
After the game, Andy Reid was happy. They are one step closer to their dream now. But another person was over the Cloud 9. The Chiefs’ owner!
Clark Hunt & Andy Reid praise the Bills
Clark Hunt was there with his entire family to support his team. He even started the game by beating the drum to start the matchup. But he was a cheerful man after the victory. Even he was impressed by the Bills, who put on a powerful show. While praising their rivals, he said, “I want to thank the Lord for this blessing and congratulate the Buffalo Bills on a tremendous season.”

Andy Reid also joined him. He also showed respect to the Bills for a great fight while adding, “What a heck of a game it was for the fans and for the National Football League.” It indeed was. At the end of the 3rd quarter, there was only 1 point deficit with a 21-22 score. However, the Chiefs had a distinct energy. Their dream motivated them. A 3-peat!
Well, we need to understand why Reid’s comments on McDermott matter. They are not new to each other, but share a long history, which has some bitter moments as well. Before the Chiefs and the Bills, Andy Reid coached alongside Sean McDermott for more than a decade while both were with the Philadelphia Eagles. The team that the Chiefs will face in the SB.
It’s worth noting that Reid fired McDermott after the 2010 season after initially saying he would retain him in 2011. The fact is, this is history now. And in the AFC championship game, Reid proved he was above McDermott a decade later too.

Fast-forward to 2024, Andy Reid moved 4-0 against Sean McDermott with this win. He also completed 301 wins in the league. His only aspiration would be to win the Super Bowl and complete the glorious run. But they need to prepare hard against the Eagles. It would be a great game!
