“I’m going to celebrate with the biggest cheeseburger you’ve ever seen.” You know that’s a statement from a Super Bowl HC, right? Of course, it has to be from Big Red. Yep, Chiefs HC Andy Reid has a lot to prove this time. Just like Patrick Mahomes, more than the 3-peat, can he cement his legacy as the GOAT? I’m talking about the same league as Bill Belichick. So it’s pretty high stakes, and that’s why the Chiefs HC has something to say about continuing his legacy ahead of the big night.
Reid has now confirmed that he’ll continue as the Chiefs HC. I mean, what more could you ask for as a fan, right? Big Red was addressing the press when he said, “Yes, I’ll be back.” He then added, “I enjoy teaching, I don’t get caught up too much in all of the stats and records, but I enjoy being around the guys. I enjoy football.” That’s Reid summed up in his own words. Maybe that’s his formula: focus on the results, and the outcomes will follow you. And the results this man has pulled off are the stuff of legends. The man has won 161 games while losing only 60 games as the Chiefs HC, and you can garnish this with 3 Super Bowl wins in the last 12 years.

And to be fair, he was never going anywhere. Yeah, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt recently said, “I know for a fact he’s going to be back next year.” So the discussion was always about what Reid wanted; the owners never left the door open on their side. They know quite well what legacy this man has built. Speaking of legacy, the QB has something to say about it too.

The Chiefs QB was facing the mics today, and he was firm while talking about the Chiefs’ legacy. “I just want to be remembered as one of the greatest teams of all time at the end of the day,” said Mahomes. I mean, if he achieves the ‘3-peat,’ there will be discussions on this. Of course, not like the Dolphins of ’72 who won the Super Bowl undefeated. But let’s say in the league of the ’84 49ers who won with a 15-1 record. Mahomes is quite focused on what he wants to leave behind. He said, “I’m more focused on leaving an imprint on the Kansas City Chiefs and how we’re remembered for the rest of time”. They’ve ended the season at 15-2 with 2 back-to-back Super Bowl wins, and getting the 3-peat will surely leave an unmatched legacy.
Mahomes, on his side, had a mixed season. He has scored 26 touchdowns with 3,928 passing yards this season. But his interception rate is below average, throwing 11 interceptions. Also, Mahomes didn’t score a Pro Bowl selection this time around, a first since his rookie season. That says a lot about how he has performed this season. He was dealing with a lot in his personal life, including the birth of his baby and his maternal grandfather’s hospitalization. So, let’s just say the QB didn’t have an easy season. But you know he’s a tough guy and has been there before, so he knows how to go about it. And he also has plenty of support around him to help him bounce back.
You’ve got the biggest Swiftie in the world, Travis Kelce, who is like Mahomes’ favorite target. Then you’ve got the defensive pair, Trent McDuffie and Isiah Pacheco. This group has done well to keep the QB going throughout the tournament and you’d expect them to support him at the biggest stage as well. Now as we’re a few nights away from the Super Bowl, the pressure of the 3-peat is on the QB-HC pair but with history on their side, you’ll surely consider them as the favorites.
