The Kansas City Chiefs were about to make history with a 3-peat. But the major problem occurred when Patrick Mahomes was not saved. He was sacked and intercepted again and again, leaving the Arrowhead fans in pain. If we look a little behind, we know that coach Andy Reid brought in Joe Thuney to protect the quarterback. But we all know that Thuney was never meant to play left tackle.
However, when the Chiefs needed help, the four-time Super Bowl champ didn’t flinch. He left his comfort zone at guard and stepped into the fire. His new role included new angles, quicker defenders, and way more space to cover. Still, he handled it like a pro. Week after week, he showed up, kept Mahomes upright, and helped Kansas City power through close games to a 15-2 finish. But now? He’s gone, shipped off to Chicago. And suddenly, the line in Mahomes’ team looks fragile.
Jaylon Moore, a backup from the 49ers, was brought in, but let’s be real – it’s not easing concerns. Wanya Morris and Kingsley Suamataia haven’t claimed that left tackle job either. So the Chiefs had their quarterback, their weapons, their coach – but the blindside? It was still wide open until Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft. Andy Reid and his team got OT Josh Simmons, and after welcoming him to the roster, the HC, confessed, via Charles Goldman, “Chiefs HC Andy Reid on the left tackle position: “We’ve got a couple of answers there where we don’t have to take a guard and move him out to that spot. . . hopefully“.”

Reid tried to fix his Super Bowl misstep by moving Joe Thuney from guard to left tackle, hoping to better protect Patrick Mahomes. And honestly, Thuney held his own. He played tough and helped the Chiefs grind out wins all season. But when it mattered most, against the wrong team at the worst time, that move just wasn’t enough – and it cost them a chance at history.
Now, though, it looks like the Chiefs finally have a real answer to the problem that haunted them last season.
Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes finally found their missing piece?
Josh Simmons couldn’t hide the emotion when that call came in. Deep down, he had a gut feeling it’d be the Chiefs, but still, he was stunned. Sitting with his big, loud, loving family, the moment felt surreal. According to the player, they’d planned to head to Green Bay for the big walk across the stage, but with limited spots, he stayed back and soaked it in with his people. Now, the 6’5″, 310-pound Ohio State standout is Kansas City-bound.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Josh Simmons be the savior Mahomes needs, or will the Chiefs' line woes continue?

Simmons is still bouncing back from a torn patellar tendon, but he made it clear: he’s feeling good, lifting, running, pushing hard to be ready for camp. And with the Chiefs needing help on the line, Simmons might just slide into that left tackle spot if all goes right. He’s hungry, versatile, and carrying the fire of a guy who knows this chance means everything.

On the other hand, coach Reid has confirmed that the Chiefs will try him at different spots. However, their main focus will be to keep him at left tackle and help protect Patrick Mahomes in the games to avoid that Super Bowl mistake.
