It looks like the Chiefs are bringing in more reinforcements to stage a strong run to the Super Bowl this year. Now, they are looking at the possibility of adding retired free agent CB Steven Nelson to their ranks. Anyone who is a Chiefs supporter might know Nelson from his 4-year stint at the club. Picked by the Chiefs in their third round of the 2015 NFL draft, Nelson could be edging towards an infamous return to Kansas City.
After meeting with the Chiefs on Monday, Nelson may have done a number on their head coach, Andy Reid. He believes the 31-year-old could be a “welcomed addition” if required at all, “He was a good player when he was here. . . He developed into a starting corner in this league and had a nice career. We’ll just see how things work out and see where he’s at today. He’d be a welcomed addition if it all works out”
Well, Nelson had a strong defensive year last season with the Texans. He impressively allowed only 38 receptions during the regular season. Aside from that, he had 52 solo tackles and 5 interceptions, including the postseason. So, taking up Nelson might not be such a bad idea after all.

Yes, the Chiefs may be winning their games. But their press coverage this season has been far from impressive. Enter Nelson. His 665 coverage snaps with 421 run defense snaps might give them the needed edge in their defense. And let’s not forget his 16.1 yards per reception, which could do the trick for Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs if they go all in for him. But there’s one problem. The Chiefs Kingdom aren’t too fond of him.
Chiefs Kingdom doesn’t want Steven Nelson near their team
You might be wondering why the Chiefs Kingdom doesn’t want Steven Nelson. Well, it comes down to his ugly divorce with fans online, where Nelson apparently replied to one, “I’m glad too never wanted to be there.” Although that was way back in 2019 when such a thing happened, it seems the fans don’t really rate Reid going after Nelson. They expressed their distaste by voicing concerns online. One of them on X wrote, “He’s awful lol.” There was another who even called the 31-year-old cringe, “Cringe on so many levels.”

Well, those negative reactions didn’t stop there, as another fan chimed in to say that he would make the Chiefs worse, “Making the Chiefs worse.” Those reactions were so bad that the fans even called out Reid for not scouting the market enough, “This better be BS….there has to be better options available.” But it seems like there aren’t, considering the way the Chiefs are progressing with this deal. Although there aren’t any breakthroughs yet, his addition would surely be the one to look out for in the coming weeks. Maybe he could help Patrick Mahomes continue his good run with more clutch plays this season.
