It’s time to buckle up! The Kansas City Chiefs are overcoming the Super Bowl heartbreak. The wounds are fresh, but Andy Reid’s team is trying to heal ASAP. For this, some have gone on vacations, while some spend time with family at home. But amidst all this, one thing is clear in their mind: they will come back even stronger! However, sound minds cannot play in games, a team needs brilliant talent too. Hence, Reid informed how the Chiefs are moving forward, this offseason. In addition, what changes will they address?
On Tuesday, Andy Reid joined NFL Network’s reporter Judy Battista for an exclusive interview. During this quick discussion, the HC revealed how the Chiefs are approaching this offseason before the upcoming games in September. For this, he praised GM Brett Veach, saying, “I think Brett does a nice job with going through every position and kind of look at the strengths and the weakness of each spot and then he’s got to project that on like a three-year advanced projection and what they’re doing with the cap.”
In addition, Andy Reid further stated the team’s approach to salary cap adjustments. He quipped, “We’re not one of those teams that kicks a gazillion dollars forward and does all of that. I mean, we’re going to draft well and we’re going to be smart and free agency and so we’re right in the kind of the middle of that process and Brett, further than I am, that’s his baby right there. But he’s looking at all that. I’ve got full confidence that he takes care of all that, you know, but as much as he possibly can.”

The Chiefs need a rest following the drubbing by the Eagles in the Super Bowl. They surely have enough experience, but scouting talents could be a meticulous process.
Veach has been with the Chiefs since 2017. In fact, he was the one who convinced Andy Reid and the General Manager at the time, John Dorsey, to draft Patrick Mahomes. So, it’s obvious for the head coach to have faith in him moving forward in managing cap spaces and drafting players for the roster.
The Chiefs have multiple key players set to hit free agency this time. Among many, one is right guard Trey Smith. So, what’s the Chiefs and Andy Reid’s stance on him? Will the 66-year-old’s faithful Veach re-sign him?
Andy Reid made it clear what the team thinks about Trey Smith!
The front office has some tough decisions to make this offseason. However, an increase in the salary cap by the NFL has definitely left the Chiefs optimistic for some players. So, does that include Trey Smith too? Well, Andy Reid thinks so.

In the same interview, he praised Smith and stated, “We’ve got a handful of these guys that are pretty good football players that are going to be free agents. You’re probably not going to be able to bring them all back. Trey’s one we’d love to get back, obviously, but just because of what he is and what he kind of stands for and he’s a great human being, first of all, a phenomenal human being and a tough one to boot. But anyways, he’s right in the middle of it. He’s working on all that stuff.”
Andy Reid hinted Smith will be back with the Chiefs after his million-dollar contract expires this offseason. But does Brett Veach have the same thought? While preparing for the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, the Chiefs’s GM said, “[Smith’s] obviously at the top of the list. We’ve already had some good dialogue with him. We’ll certainly do what we can and feel pretty optimistic about our possibilities there.”
So, yes, high chances remain that Smith will be back with Andy Reid next season. After all, he is arguably one of the best guards in the league. This is also evident from the stats that, despite age 25, Smith played over 1,200 snaps every season since being drafted in 2021.
