Is Patrick Mahomes just in a slump, or are we witnessing the start of his decline?

The Chiefs are slowly yet steadily working their way towards a three-peat. In the first 4 games, they are 4-0. 2 of those 4 games were close. However, the Chiefdom is concerned about one thing. Their MVP quarterback, Patrick Mahomes! Though he has held them together, he has made 5 interceptions. Last year, he had 14 interceptions in 16 regular games. But the eyes are on him. And mistakes aren’t slipping that easily.

Head Coach Andy Reid appeared on The Herd with Colin Cowherd Show, where the host asked an interesting question. He first praised the quarterback, even calling him the best QB in the league. But later asked the coach how he views the QB’s stinkers. The coach’s reply was straight and clear.

Reid said that Mahomes was one of the best athletes who are coachable and said, “I’m here just to be a teacher and so I try to help him out with uh whatever I can help him out with but nobody wants to be coached more than he wants to be coached. My point to him is to keep firing.” And the quarterback seems to be following the coach’s advice. Patrick Mahomes has completed 83 of 121 passes with 904 passing yards and 6 touchdowns.

However, his struggles are far from over. Cowherd asked Reid if the QB ever loses his confidence. And his reply was never. The HC also claimed that Mahomes always wants to do well for his team and teammates. The QB plays with a deep desire to win.

There’s another player who has contributed immensely to their victories.

Just like Patrick Mahomes holds the offense, Chris Jones keeps the defense together

What’s your perspective on:

Is Patrick Mahomes just in a slump, or are we witnessing the start of his decline?

Have an interesting take?

The defensive lineman Chris Jones has been with the Chiefs since 2016. In his rookie year, he only had 2 sacks in 16 games. By his 3rd year, the DL was in his prime form, having 15.5 sacks in 16 games. He worked and kept the defense in alignment. However, the success wouldn’t have been possible without the quarterback.

Just a year after Jones, Patrick Mahomes arrived on the team in 2017. And they clicked perfectly. Since they have joined forces, the team has won 3 Super Bowls. Jones also holds a league record with a sack in 11 consecutive games. The DL is also eyeing a 3-peat. And he’s taking it seriously.

Jones is taking inspiration from a late legend. Mamba Mentality! The DL is motivated by Kobe Bryant’s words to always be ready for the moment. He views the 4th quarter as the most significant part of the game. Can Patrick Mahomes and Jones team up to create history?
