Are the Chiefs risking their season by playing injured stars like JuJu Smith-Schuster?

As every week passes by in the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs continue to extend their unbeaten start to the season. However, those wins aren’t all positive, as the Chiefs continue to lose players to injuries. Their latest addition to the treatment table in Kansas City is veteran WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, who left the field in the first quarter with a hamstring injury on Sunday.

Building up to the clash, Smith-Schuster was listed as questionable for hamstring spasms felt in training. But Andy Reid still decided to go ahead with him, considering the lack of receivers they have available. Well, offering an update on JuJu’s injury and the practice squad’s involvement, Reid said, “Really all those guys on the practice squad, we’ve got trust and feel good about. We’ve talked about it a little here. I’ll get a chance to talk to Brett Veach here, and we’ll.”

With Smith-Schuster out for 8 weeks, the Chiefs only have Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, Mecole Hardman and Skyy Moore on their WR depth chart. Among all those next in line, none of them managed to cross 20 receiving yards on Sunday. However, Hardman did muster 38 rushing yards with one catch for 17 yards, thereby showing the problems they have in the receiver room. Even Worthy who had an explosive start to his rookie season after scoring a TD on the first night. Didn’t show the same flair as he finished with only 24 yards against the 49ers.

Aside from JuJu, Kansas City already has Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown on their injury reserves. Rice suffered a gruesome knee injury in week 4, that ended his second season in the NFL. Elsewhere, Brown, who joined the team this offseason, hasn’t played a single snap since getting his shoulder injured in preseason.

Before the bye week, JuJu Smith-Schuster had a great game returning for his second stint with the Chiefs this season. Finishing with seven catches for 130 yards, he helped the Chiefs continue their unbeaten streak into the bye week. However, his absence next week against the Raiders could truly hurt the Chiefs if they don’t find a solution soon. Well, former NFL offensive guard Geoff Schwartz did urge the Chiefs to bring Jets WR Garrett Wilson. As he continues to get overlooked in New York after Davante Adams’ signing last week.

Garrett Wilson’s struggles continue as Chiefs look to sign the $20 M Jets WR

After the Jets sealed the Davante Adams trade deal last week, Garrett Wilson’s brief time in New York appears to have gone behind the shadows. Over the seven games he has played this season, the 24-year-old has racked up 46 receptions for 460 yards, including three TDs. As multiple teams continue to monitor his situation with the Jets, his mistake vs the Steelers on Sunday may have led to a pick-6. Catching five passes on 9 targets for 61 yards, his fumble in the third quarter left him disappointed.

As the Jets trail by only 1-point, Aaron Rodgers found Wilson in open space for a pass. However, Wilson couldn’t hold on to the pass properly as it ricocheted off his chest to the hands of Steelers CB Beanie Bishop Jr. He then went ahead and returned it on the Jets one-yard line. That could have been worse if not for the last-second tackle by Jets WR Davante Adams.

Giving his insight into that unusual interception, “I got to catch the damn football. I’m playing like s— right now. Got to fix it. I don’t take that lightly. That was the reason we lost the game at the end of the day.” After letting his team down on multiple occasions this season. Will the Chiefs really enjoy any boost with him on the lineup? For now, it’s just rumors, as the Chiefs are yet to make a move for a receiver mid-season.
