Travis Kelce has proved himself time and time again! The Kansas City Chiefs’ no. 87 is arguably considered one of the best tight ends the NFL has ever produced. However, there was a time when he had to wait until 62 other players were drafted before him.

Many teams hesitated to rely on Kelce due to his previous incident of “moral conduct.” Among them, one was the Dallas Cowboys, who “pressed him about having this red flag of missing a year.” This eventually led Kelce to be picked by coach Andy Reid, who recently admitted his ignorance of Kelce’s Bearcats’ incident.

A missed opportunity that Dallas must be regretting!

In a recent episode of SPEAK, Andy Reid virtually joined the show with Emmanuel Acho, Joy Taylor, James Jones, and LeSean McCoy to talk about Chiefs’ dynasty and the team’s key players. As Patrick Mahomes’ entry in the Red Army was crucial, Travis Kelce’s selection in the 2013 NFL draft was also important. However, since Kelce was facing his personal struggles in his football career, there was a high doubt that any team would have selected him.

But Chiefs coach Reid picked him in the third-round, 63rd pick overall. Talking about the incident once again, Reid was asked, “Was there ever a point where you had to have a conversation with Travis and just say look I don’t care what you’re doing off the field just don’t let it impact what you’re doing on the field.” To which Reid replied, “Yeah, probably when he was a rookie, but other than that, I haven’t had to do that.

These “red flag” and “not selected” factors stem from Kelce’s past incidents when he was 19. In a recent episode of “New Heights,” Travis explained what he went through due to his mistake in high school. Kelce faced suspension during the Bearcats’ 2010 season, because he tested positive for m*riju*na, violating team rules. However, he came back to the team in 2011 and had a successful 2012 season.

But his 1-year red flag put him under the scrutiny and skepticism of many teams and scouts. However, Andy Reid believed in him, and as a result, Kelce never let his off-field issues impact his game. Just like this past season, he didn’t let his relationship with Taylor Swift affect his game.

Reid highlighted how she made treats for the Chiefs’ offensive linemen, building camaraderie. The 65-year-old expressed happiness for their relationship and noted that Kelce never let personal matters distract him. Regarding Kelce’s performance, Reid debunked notions of decline, attributing success to having a reliable counterpart on the field.
