The future of QB Kenny Pickett in the Pittsburgh Steelers looked uncertain when QB Russell Wilson was signed with the team. Now the feared event has come to pass. The quarterback Pickett has been released from the Steel City.
Pickett experienced an ankle injury in Week 12 of the last season, just before halftime of the Steelers’ loss to the Cardinals. Since then, he hasn’t returned to the gridiron. And now he won’t be returning to represent the Steelers. Pittsburgh sent him to the Eagles for a fairly modest return. As the 25-year-old QB will now leave his no. 8 Steelers jersey, the Pittsburgh food chain has an interesting offer to make, much to the delight of sandwich fans.

Primanti Bros, a sandwich-serving restaurant, has a special offer for people who own Kenny Pickett jerseys. The brand, on their official X account, tweeted, “Stuck with a Kenny jersey? We’ve got you covered. Trade it in for a $25 gift card at our Strip District location on Sunday, March 17 from 10AM-2PM.” So, if anyone exchanges their Steelers’ Pickett’s No. 8 jersey, they will get a $25 gift card.

The CEO of Primanti Bros., Adam Golomb mentioned that they understand many Pittsburgh residents spent money on Pickett’s jerseys, so they wanted to extend help by offering this deal. However, the gift card is limited to one per person and can be used at the Strip District restaurant only. Golomb emphasized that their restaurant has been supporting the people of Pittsburgh since 1933, and they’ll continue to do so even with the changes in the Steelers team.
Amidst this, as reported on Friday, Kenny Pickett was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. This trade occurred shortly after Russell Wilson entered the Pittsburgh team.
What’s next for the Steelers and Kenny Pickett?
Although the QB has his name attached to Pittsburgh history currently, his fans would be happy to know that Kenny Pickett grew up an Eagles fan. And now, he gets to play for the team he rooted for, joining Jalen Hurts. Pickett’s addition to the team is beneficial because he’s still under his rookie contract for two more years. In 2024, as per Over the Cap, his base salary is $985,000, and in 2025, it’s $2,623,350.

This means the Eagles have a backup quarterback whose salary is fixed for the next two seasons. On the other hand, the Steelers have traded Pickett, and Mason Rudolph has signed with the Titans. They have Russell Wilson as their starter, and they will likely be adding the available QB Ryan Tannehill to their list as a backup name for him.
