Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs stands tall, burdened with a glorious purpose—the quest to 3-peat. A couple of days ago, Keyshawn Johnson, declared on FS1 that Mahomes should deserve to be discussed as possibly the greatest quarterback of all time. And Mahomes is proving his point every time he enters the field. Today’s divisional-round victory over the Texans is no exception to that. But for the Houston team? Well, according to them, the divisional round game was “us against everybody.”
Second straight divisional round for the Texans and now they’re not happy with their loss. Honestly, no one’s happy with a loss, but the Texans came up with the third person in the play responsible for their loss. Correction: not just the Texans but sports enthusiasts as well. And it’s none other than the officiating crew. But amidst all that referee controversy, the Chiefs’ QB has a message for the Chiefdom as the team has advanced to the AFC Championship game.
A few hours ago, Mahomes took to his official Instagram handle and posted the very pic most of y’all were waiting for. Yeah, that diving touchdown throw to Travis Kelce while avoiding a sack. But that pic isn’t the only thing worth attention. It’s the four-word message as well. “On to the next ⏰,” Mahomes captioned.

Sure, the quarterback is looking on the bright side right now as the Chiefs have clinched the seventh straight championship round. But let’s be real. They’re heading to the next with a couple of controversial calls tucked in their backpacks. The first of them? It came on the Chiefs’ second drive.
The refs flagged the Texans’ defensive end, Will Anderson Jr, for roughing the passer that led to Harrison Butker’s 36-yard field goal for the Chiefs. However, when watching at the replays, the play appeared to be clean, as Anderson was a step away from Mahomes. And that wasn’t all.
During the third quarter, the refs penalized Texans’ Henry To’oTo’o for unnecessary roughness. Well, according to the Texans, that penalty was indeed unnecessary. See, the Chiefs’ QB scrambled for 9 yards before sliding when Henry collided with his teammate, seemingly contacting Mahomes. However, replays showed that the QB was barely hit, but the refs flagged To’oTo’o that cost the Texans 15-yards.
Those two controversial calls from the refs flooded the Texans’ locker room with disappointment during one of the most important game of the season and led to severe yet understandable controversy.

A 23-14 win over the Texans and now the questions are raising. Who was the hero of the game? Of course, no one’s gonna say the Chiefs at this point. All the fingers are aimed at the officiating crew and the Texans are not happy with that at all. After Anderson was fined on third-and-8 from the Chiefs for roughing the passer, the DE came up with a solid response.
“We knew it was going to be us versus the refs going into this game,” he said, following the loss. And he wasn’t the only one to take a jab at the referees. The Texans’ head coach joined him after the game over the controversial call from the refs. “We knew going into this game, man, it was us vs. everybody. And when I say everybody, it’s everybody,” the head coach, DeMeco Ryans, said. “Knowing that going into this game, what we were up against, we can’t make the mistakes that we made.”
“Whether it’s special teams not converting our kicks. Defensively, not being where we’re supposed to be in coverage. Offensively, not protecting our quarterback and keeping him clean. You married that on top of everything else that we have to deal with, it’s just going to be a really tough uphill battle,” Ryans said further.

This loss bruised the Texans’ pretty well. The main reason? The Texans had a total of 8 penalties that cost them 82 yards. On the other hand, the Chiefs had four penalties that costed them just 29 yards. You can say, that’s somehow the game summary of the Texans’ 23-14 loss.
But what about Patrick Mahomes and Co. While the Texans are busy airing their frustrations, you can bet the Chiefs have a different take on the whole situation? Take Jaylen Watson, who recently shared some shades on all the drama. “I miss when grown men took their losses like a man a new day and age though…” he stated on Texans players, blaming the officiating crew for their loss. What y’all think of it?
