In 2022, Davante Adams joined Las Vegas Raiders on a record 5-year $141.25 million deal. It was the highest contract for any WR at that time. However, he is facing challenges at the Silver & Black. The team hasn’t found the right quarterback. Last year, Aidan O’Connell and Jimmy Garoppolo battled for them, but they couldn’t qualify for playoffs. This year, they are pinning their hopes on O’Connell and Gardner Minshew. On the other hand, the Green Bay Packers (Adams’ former team) enjoyed a stellar 2023 season riding on Jordan Love, one of the best QBs in the league currently.
While talking with Zach Gelb on The Zach Gelb Show on the 14th of August, the former Green & Gold star John Kuhn talked about the WR’s dilemma down the road. Kuhn mentioned that while the Packers didn’t have the best WRs, each WR of the team has a quality of the best ones. According to him, “Christian Watson has the speed, Romeo Doubs has the hands, Jayden Reed can go through the defense, and Dontayvion Wicks has the route-running ability.” But he also admitted that none of them was as good as Adams.
Subsequently, Gelb brought out the question that had Adams stayed at Packers he had an option of going back in time. Kuhn was spot on. He knows the tough nature of the NFL and said, “Honestly, to play in the NFL at the level he does, you got to be an alpha. You got to have no regrets. You got to have very thick skin.” But the Pack has thrived since Love has taken over.

Last year was his first year as the starting QB and he took the team to playoffs whereas the Raiders failed to qualify. Amazed at the turnaround, Kuhn added, “It’s hard to look at what this Packers team has done and become in such a short period of time. I would be surprised if Davante Adams didn’t say at least sometime down the road here. Man, I probably should have given it a try with Jordan Love.” He may be right, but Adams doesn’t have the time to ponder over his decisions, with the season around the corner.

Adams isn’t concerned about the past. He is talking to both QBs in the practice and trying to find that rhythm. After an impressive 2023 season with 1,144 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns, the WR aims to repeat his performance, with a different result for the team. Raider Nation would want to see the team in playoffs this year.

Raiders made several changes to their team in hopes of better results. The most prominent one was naming Antonio Pierce as their head coach.
Raiders HC is happy with the preseason opener while Davante Adams isn’t interested
In their preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings on August 10, the Raiders lost by 23-24. However, HC Pierce was happy with the team’s play. He liked the fighting attitude of his players, particularly the efforts to bring to game to the field goal situation. He was also happy with the way the offense performed.

But the WR doesn’t want to play in the preseason. Adams hasn’t played in preseason since 2016. But his performances in season are mostly up to the mark, with four consecutive seasons of 1,000 plus yards. Voicing his point, he said, “If I’m choosing, I’m not playing.” The WR believes that practice is more important.
Raiders have a very important decision to make in a short time. Who’ll be the starting quarterback? If they sort that out, their chances of improving go up. Raider Nation is hoping Pierce decides that early.
