Are Mahomes and Kelce losing their magic, or is this just a temporary slump for the Chiefs?

The Kansas City Chiefs are now leading with a proud 3-0 trail after defeating the Atlanta Falcons in their latest week 3 game. As usual, their offense was unstoppable, while the defense was virtually impenetrable. However, there was a slight controversy that you may not have noticed.

The praiseworthy offensive team of the Chiefs struggled to score against the Falcons in the beginning. Some fans even questioned Patrick Mahomes for his calls, especially when he didn’t pass the ball enough to Travis Kelce. And now, we have one more perspective on the offense.

Linebacker Leo Chanel told reporter Darren Smith, “I think we are doing a really good job defending the run. First and foremost, I think we have got to be more consistent throughout the whole game.

This happened after Smith had asked him for his thoughts regarding the team’s offense. According to Chanel, had Mahomes and the rest of them been consistent since the beginning, it would have helped set the pace for the defensive team as well.

Earlier in the game, Mahomes and the rest of the offensive gang were struggling to score because the Falcons‘ defense was covering them well enough. This is exactly why Travis Kelce only caught four catches on five targets for 30 passing yards.

But don’t be disappointed, there is a bigger plan in the works for him.

Travis Kelce could have a big role to play in the coming games

Being a tight end is often regarded as one of the toughest positions on the offensive team. Given his reputation of scoring touchdowns and being a good asset to the Chiefs kingdom, the opponents try to keep Kelce as occupied as possible. This gives the QB time to focus on other players instead.

In the post-game press conference vs the Falcons, Mahomes explained that he didn’t pass the ball to Kelce enough because he was almost always covered. He also promised to keep “feeding him” more in the upcoming matchups.

This is something that a former NFL star also believes. Ex-Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel claimed that he believes the star TE will be a huge part of Andy Reid’s first 15 scripted plays.
