AFC is all abuzz! The Jets – Steelers matchup is heated up and can come out to be the most electrifying game of this Sunday. Amid the starter QB debate of the Steelers, some insiders leak valuable information and guess what, this insider happens to be a player.
While head coach Mike Tomlin kept things close to the vest about the Steelers’ starting quarterback against the Jets, George Pickens seemed to let a detail slip. “It’s always a little different,” Pickens said, suggesting something big was brewing. He mentioned working “one-on-one” and putting in extra time at practice, fueling speculation about a new QB stepping in. Pickens admitted he was putting in more reps than usual, adding, “This is his first start,” leaving many to believe he was hinting at Russell Wilson getting the nod.

Tomlin, on the other hand, kept things vague. “I’m just going to keep that in-house,” he said when asked about the starter, refusing to name anyone outright. But Tomlin did praise both QBs, saying, “I thought [Russell] was sharp. I thought Justin was sharp as well.” Even with Tomlin playing coy, Pickens’ comments had already stirred up the rumor mill.
This unintentional reveal comes after Tomlin wanted to keep the Jets guessing about the QB situation, but Pickens didn’t get the memo. Still, it wasn’t much of a shocker since signs had already pointed to Wilson being the choice. Wilson has been taking first-team reps in practice and, according to NFL Network, is fully healed from the calf injury that sidelined him earlier in the season. Tomlin, however, might not be thrilled with Pickens’ slip-up ahead of the big AFC matchup.
