Is Jalen Hurts really to blame, or is Kellen Moore the one who should face the heat?

As the Samba nation rejoiced while NFL history books were written, the Eagles vs Packers had everything that a fan could have hoped for. However, one man had a hard time trying to get a grip on South American soil during the season opener. QB Jalen Hurts, who is slated to take the Eagles to greater heights after Jason Kelce’s exit, might not have repaid the faith bestowed on him.

Having finished with 278 passing yards and 2 TDs, the 2 interceptions could have changed the trajectory of the game. Although the Eagles did end up winning this historical fixture in the slightest of margins, Hurts was subjected to brutal criticism. But standing beside him was the new OC Kellen Moore, who shared his thoughts about the interceptions.

“I think sometimes the first game. And, we had two 3rd and extra long opportunities where you practice some of those during training camp, and I think we just got a little aggressive, myself play calling, also ultimately just the throw,” said the Eagles OC. Well, Moore might be right, as he used motion plays and personal packages to demonstrate their dynamic capabilities. Once the Eagles’ offense started to rely upon motion plays, it brought the best out of Hurts as he completed 15-of-21 passes with two TDs.

However, as the Eagles reverted back to their non-motion plays, Hurts started to struggle as he finished with 5-of-13 passes while gifting two horrible interceptions. This led to the fans voicing their thoughts, with some saying, “What a s— throw by Hurts.” But the fans aren’t the only ones who decided to rip apart the Eagles’ QB performance. Former NFL player Shannon Sharpe took to X for expressing his concerns, “That looked like a cov 6. Quarter, quarter, half. Hurts knows better than 2 throw that into that coverage.”

As we all know, loss for one is gain for another; it was time for Packers’ safety Xavier McKinney to showcase his brilliance on the field. It was him who got the first interception that led to NFL fans singing praises of him, “Xavier McKinney has arrived!!!” Even former NFL QB Robert Griffin chipped in with his views, stating, “Xavier McKinney already making his presence felt. He likes that.”

Moreover, he had the 8th-best interception ratio in the NFL last year, which skyrocketed to 25th by this season. Speaking about his recent issues on interceptions, Hurts added, “It’s all the things that you can control. We’ll continue to find our rhythm as a football team. It’s always good to be able to figure it out with a win. Good to start the season off in the win column.”

Although the Eagles managed to scrap out a win in Brazil, Hurts wasn’t that poor, as he made plays to help his team. He assisted Brown to a 67-yard touchdown while helping Barkley to an 18-yard TD. Looking back, the Eagles QB had 14 completions for first downs while clinching a crucial field goal attempt that helped the Eagles muster a six-point lead with 27 seconds to go.

Opening up on his shortcomings that might have impacted his team, Hurts stated, “We all experienced some adversity, but we all dug deep and kept pressing forward.” Well, the Eagles did come out victorious while becoming the first team to ever win on South American soil. But big questions could be raised about Hurts’ performance, which could have impacted the team negatively. As week 2 of the new NFL season comes by, Hurts would be hoping he can move away from those mistakes and rediscover his top form.
