The Colts are struggling. With a 4-5 win-loss record, they are sitting at the 2nd position in the AFC South. The week 9 game against the Vikings ended on a disappointing note with a 13-21 loss. At the center of the brewing storm is the head coach Shane Steichen. His stance this year has been beyond comprehension.
After the defeat, he confirmed his viewpoint about the quarterback position and said that the team would start with Joe Flacco. The more startling statement was that he never felt that the young quarterback Anthony Richardson would have produced better results in the game. The coach is imposing his authority over the locker room.

#Colts HC Shane Steichen said QB Joe Flacco remains the starter “right now.”
He added that he did not feel inclined to put Anthony Richardson into the game at any point tonight.

However, the confusion is prevalent. Last year, Steichen was the driving force behind bringing Richardson to the fold. But now, he’s backing out. Ever since the young QB took a breather against the Texans, the coach hadn’t taken the responsibility of his protégé. He isn’t ready to be patient enough.

Things are turning very quickly. And the earlier Steichen takes control of them, the easier it would be. The Colts are knocking on playoff chances. They are in the 8th position, and every game from here on will tilt the scales. That might be one reason the coach chose experience over the age advantage. However, the change of quarterbacks hasn’t produced the desired result. The team still lost.
Would Shane Steichen get fired over the QB debacle?
This is his first team as a head coach. So, we can give him the benefit of the doubt. However, he has been in coaching circles for many years now. He knows that the signal-caller has to lead the team. It was his choice to go with a rookie and train him to become the locker room leader. This has also irked the fans. This might lead to HC’s firing if he doesn’t get careful about his mistakes.

It’s hard to understand why Shane Steichen used such a harsh statement for Anthony Richardson. Even Joe Flacco has failed to lead them to a win. In the week 9 matchup against the Vikings, the 39-year-old looked way below his prime. With 16 of 27 passes in 179 yards, he failed to score a touchdown. He couldn’t inspire that competitive spirit in his O-line.
Blue Crew, there’s no reason to be sad or gloomy. Though things haven’t gone positive, there’s a good chance of qualifying for the playoffs. The only thing required is focus. Instead of changing the priorities now and then, the Colts need to work with a single goal in mind, a win. Outside noise will slowly fade away.
