15 days removed from the Super Bowl LIX, we are already in the first stage of the next season. Time flies, right? The NFL Scouting Combine has just kicked off in Indianapolis. 32 NFL franchises have traveled to Indy in order to find their next big superstar ahead of the NFL Draft. However, out of the 32 clubs, there is one team that needs to keep their eyes wide open. If they are really motivated to turn their franchise from bottom-dwellers to table-toppers. This Combine could be a make-or-break situation for them. And yes, we are talking about none other than the league’s one of the laughing stocks, Cleveland Browns.
See, the Browns may not have been the worst franchise in the NFL last season. But there’s no other franchise that can rank lower than their QB room. Their $230M QB Deshaun Watson doesn’t yet have a return date to the gridiron. His constant trouble with injuries (especially season-ending ones), poor QB plays, off-the-field drama, and suspension have pulled in more publicity than his time on the gridiron. Everything that could have gone wrong for the Browns with fully guaranteed Watson’s contract has gone worse. That’s why the Browns are looking for a complete reset at the Combine. An injection of fresh blood with hopes of siphoning out past horrors.
Browns GM Andrew Berry, speaking at the Combine, pointed out two things he is looking at to identify his next franchise signal-caller. “I think it’s twofold. I think number one, you know, there’s a fair amount that you can tell from the film, like how are they going through their progressions. Okay, this is the concept, this is the coverage, this is where you think they should go with the ball.” Hmm, someone who has clearly messed up the Browns’ QB room is giving his 2 cents about the position. Interesting, to be honest. Let’s see what else he is looking for.

But probably the bigger piece..is the idea of talking to them during these settings and during the spring and really seeing how they think. Whether you talk through a successful play or honestly, a lot of times that are more helpful is like, okay, let’s talk through an unsuccessful play and see what led to the decision and then ultimately what they learned from it.” Berry feels those are the factors that would help him find his next generational QB. Will that be Shedeur Sanders, whom the Browns have been tailing for quite some time?

Let’s find out what Berry had to say about Colorado’s superstar QB: “He’s a fantastic individual, really smart, really driven…It’s been a pleasure to spend time with him, looking forward to spending more over the next several weeks.” There’s a huge possibility of Sanders playing for the Dawg Pound next season. With them holding the No.2 pick, it’s only a matter of time before he moves to Cleveland. While Berry gave a pretty detailed approach to his QB plans for next season. He also made it clear there’s no chance Myles Garrett is moving out.
Myles Garrett’s dream of winning the Super Bowl may never come to fruition
Dawg Pound, all I can say is there’s one good news for you lot. Yes, your 6-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher Myles Garrett has lost his desire to continue playing in Cleveland. Your franchise is still hell-bent on retaining him. Despite his asking for a trade while expressing his desire to win a Super Bowl elsewhere, Berry has made one thing clear. Organizational goals come first before individual ambitions. “Myles is a huge part of our organization. I understand the trade request and everything, but our stance really has not changed. We can’t imagine a situation where not having Myles as part of the organization is best for the Browns.”

There’s actually no doubt the Browns need him to stay if they really want to complete this rebuild. Letting a player who clearly has kept the Browns relevant walkout wouldn’t be a wise move. Yes, they could probably get a slew of first-round picks for Garrett. But replacing him wouldn’t be easy. A player who has put up double-digit sacks in seven consecutive seasons is in no way replaceable.
So, the Browns have made their stance clear on Garrett’s future. Let’s see what he has to say before the next season starts breathing down our necks. Of course, he would be fuming right now. But who knows, maybe he would stick around for another season, considering the Browns do find stability at QB. And stay away from Deshaun Watson.

Really wish I would have picked a different team when I was young.
