Will DeAndre Hopkins' experience be the game-changer the Chiefs need for their Super Bowl run?

The Chiefdom is in safe hands. Despite having a problematic wide receiver department that is struggling with injuries, the team has come on top. This can be attributed to the sharp thinking of the head coach, Andy Reid. He has been reinforcing backups from here and there so that the Chiefs don’t fall short of options.

On October 22, 2024, they signed Cornell Powell to the practice squad. They had earlier waived him in August. However, he’s back now. Also, Andy Reid has got DeAndre Hopkins from the Titans. That’s good news. It also helps their cause as Powell has played for them for the last 3 seasons while Hopkins is a veteran of the league with more than a decade of experience.

Andy Reid’s choice to get Cornell Powell back into the fold is a strategic move. Though he has been in and out of the team, he knows the locker room dynamics and has been through that environment before. He was signed with them when the Chiefs won back-to-back Super Bowls.

The coach hasn’t stopped there. Andy Reid’s decision to sign DeAndre Hopkins might work wonders for them. In 11 NFL seasons, the veteran has 928 receptions with 12,355 receiving yards and 78 touchdowns. Experience will definitely help them. Also, Titans’ agreement to bear a portion of Hopkins’ salary would also ease some financial hassles for them.

However, as much as we know about the Chiefs, decisions are taken based on keeping Patrick Mahomes at the center. He must be feeling happy about it.

Not only Andy Reid, but Patrick Mahomes also gets a major boost with trade-ins

When Powell was first drafted by the Chiefs in the 2021 NFL Draft, the MVP quarterback had pretty solid praise for the rookie. He had claimed that WR was good and said, “Then Cornell, he’s a beast. He’s big out there, running across the field and making some big catches in some tough, contested spots.” These words might have stuck out with Andy Reid and helped him to take a call.

If we talk about another acquired receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, he was already in awe of Mahomes’ Skillset. After the Chiefs won the 2023 Super Bowl, the WR tweeted, “Patrick Mahomes is different 👀.” He indeed is. And now, both will share inputs with each other.

The Chiefdom is happy that Andy Reid is doing everything in his power to ensure that they have a robust locker room going forward. It might help them in hidden ways as the stars Rashee Rice, Isiah Pacheco, and Marquise Brown might become fit and return to the team in time for their 3rd Super Bowl attempt.
