Is the Patriots' victory worth the risk of losing their promising rookie QB to injury?

The Patriots finally won! Not just that, they also ended their 6-game losing streak with a 25-22 W over the Jets. It was not the Pats’ way of doing it, for sure. But right now, it was about getting a dub in the bag. However, of course, the win came with a heavy cost: rookie QB Drake Maye left the game with what appears to be a possible concussion. Still, that didn’t stop him from sharing in the victory vibes.

Maye took to his Instagram story and shared the post of the Pats victory with this caption: “How about the fellas!!” You have got to hand it to him. The guy takes a brutal hit, heads straight to the locker room, but he’s still hyped enough to cheer on his teammates. That’s some next-level grit.

The injury happened in the second quarter when Jets’ safety Jamien Sherwood drilled Maye from behind during an 18-yard scramble, catching him square on the helmet. No flag, though. Gotta love how selective officiating can be with hits to the head, right? At least, that’s the common notion around the Patriots Nation currently.

Two plays later, Maye took a sack and missed his third-down shot to receiver Kayshon Boutte, which forced a punt. From there, he was off to the blue medical tent and then the locker room, never to return to the game.

As the Pats celebrate the win, fans can’t help but hope Maye recovers quickly. But how quickly is quick? This team has been through enough. Now, they simply can’t afford to have the in-form young star out for long.

Jerod Mayo can’t wait for Drake Maye to return!

Have an interesting take?

Jerod Mayo is eager to have Drake Maye back under center. And why not? I mean, Maye’s been bringing energy to the Patriots’ offense (that they have been lacking of late), even if the wins haven’t come easy. And in just his third NFL start, he was showing flashes of potential before a brutal hit forced him out.

Despite two dropped passes, Maye had already racked up 46 rushing yards on three carries and even took it to the end zone himself. After the game, Mayo shared a telling moment: “I walked in at halftime and saw him, and the competitor he is, he wanted to go back out there.”

But protocol is protocol, and it was clear the Patriots weren’t taking any chances. “I can’t wait to get him back,” Mayo added. It’s a sentiment shared by fans who see promise in the young QB’s playmaking ability.

As for Maye’s return? He’ll have to work through the NFL’s five-phase concussion protocol, which could take days or even weeks. For now, it’s a waiting game as he progresses through each phase, from light aerobic exercise to non-contact drills before finally being cleared for full-contact practice.

In the meantime, Jacoby Brissett stepped in, moving the ball just enough to snag a much-needed win over the Jets. But Patriots fans know they’ll need more firepower ahead. And if you question their belief in Maye, then let the numbers do the talking. Since taking the reins from Brissett, the rookie has enjoyed playing with fire—completing 49 of 76 over 564 yards for 5 TDs and only 2 INTs.

So, will Maye be back soon to pick up where he left off? I mean, that is the hope in the camp.
