When everyone keeps talking about retiring at 40, Bill Belichick is still going strong at 72. What’s his secret sauce? And more than that, it’s easy to find motivation when the going is easy, but what about when it becomes incredibly difficult? The Patriots are currently 2-7, going into Week 10. How does he find the motivation to push through all of this?

With his upcoming game against the 4-5 Indianapolis Colts, the chances of a comeback seem bleaker. However, in a surprise turn of events, they vanquished the Buffalo Bills which were in second place in their division. So, are we in for a surprise on Sunday as Bill seeks to turn around the New England Patriots, and his own, fortunes?

When a reporter asked Bill how, after 2 decades of coaching, he still finds the energy and the motivation to show up every day for his team, Bill let the car out of the bag. “I enjoy it all. I enjoy all aspects of the preparation, the team building, and the competitiveness on Sundays. The staff, the players, it’s a great environment. Honestly, it beats working, and I enjoy it.”

There you go. That’s his secret. For him, coaching doesn’t even feel like working. And after working the same job for 48 years, anyone would be tired. But not Bill Belichick. Even as criticism mounted when he failed to deliver a Super Bowl win to the Patriots after Tom Brady’s departure, he has kept his calm and has ignored the doubters. And it would be too soon to dismiss him anyway.

Can Bill Belichick break Don Shula’s record?

Don Shula stands first in the most number of wins in NFL history at 347. Belichick’s record so far is 331. He just needs 17 more wins to surpass Don Shula. He is already being touted as the NFL’s “most successful coach”. After all, while Shula has 2 Super Bowls to his name, Belichick has 6. But it seems improbable that he will accomplish it with the Patriots. And for a coach the stature of Belichick, there is no lack of offers.

The Coach is understandably frustrated with how his team has been performing. It’s tough to believe that it’s the same dynasty that went 16-0 in 2007, and now is 2-7, midway through the season. According to Jason La Canfora, the Washington Commanders and the Chicago Bears could be the 71-year-old’s next destination. However, nothing has been confirmed yet and everyone will have their ears close to the wall as to what will be Belichick’s next move.
