Islam Makhachev vs Dustin Poirier anticipation finally has a victor. In an exchange of skills and enthusiasm, the former came on top of the game at the recent UFC 302 main event and won by submission. While the UFC world relished in this impressive exchange in the ring, the NFL star Patrick Mahomes couldn’t hold back his admiration.

It is no news that the 3x Super Bowl Champion has massive respect for sports and like a true sportsman, Mahomes acknowledges the talent of other professionals. This time, it was Islam Makhachev who caught the Chiefs QB’s attention who took to X and wrote, “Great fight!! #ufc302.”

This win has tied Makhachev for most lightweight title defenses of all time and now, he might be eligible to make a jump to welterweight to pursue a second UFC title. The fighter from Makhachkala, Russia, is now 26-1-0 and Poirier is 30-9-0 in his career. Earlier, Poirier lost the “BMF” fight to Justin Gaethje, but soon made a comeback against Benoit Saint-Denis, which increased his chances against the Russian fighter. Alas! Results didn’t turn in favor of the Lafayette city native.

But Mahomes’ support for the UFC and its daredevils goes way beyond Islam Makachev’s title fight. Speaking of Gaethje and the BMF title, Mahomes showed everyone just how invested he was in the sport when Max Holloway went against Justin Gaethje and made him taste his blood, taunted him, and ended the fight just a few seconds before the clock finally ran out. Unlike this time, Mahomes had a 3 worded message for the UFC 300 fighters.

Patrick Mahomes is an avid combat sports fan

With just one second remaining in Round 5, Gaethje and Holloway exchanged massive blows, and the crowd went crazy. The sheer exhilaration in the arena was enough to captivate everyone, and it felt like the cheers could be heard from beyond the TV screens. The last punch knocked Gaethje out and he couldn’t get up, even after all the help. Holloway couldn’t contain himself after winning the fight and yelled out, “I’m him! I’m him, guys!”

The fight had a massive impact on Mahomes after Holloway won the made-up “BMF” title. The Kansas City Chiefs QB took to X and posted, That was crazy!!!!!!!! #UFC300. After that fight, the featherweight, Holloway is 26-7-0 in his career, while his opponent Justin Gaethje is 25-5-0. Holloway is 12-0 in TKO’s and 2-1 in win by submissions. As for Gaethje, he is 20-3 in TKOs and 1-2 in submission wins.

Justin Gaethje was showing off his skills seconds before he got knocked out. It just goes to say that all you need is just one proper connection to knock out an opponent, and Holloway just proved that. Props to the fighters who take massive risks to put on a show for an action thirst audience.
