Kyle Juszczyk left the bay for what seems more like a quick getaway than a permanent goodbye. The 33-year-old fullback shared an emotional moment with his fans on Instagram, saying that he missed home. What seemed like a goodbye 4 days ago has turned into a brand new deal. This season, it seems like there are more take backs than ever.

“Feels good to be home, “Juszczyk’s story on IG confirmed that he is happy to return to Levi Stadium after a brief separation. The #44 jersey is returning to the San Francisco 49ers. Looks like the 49ers needed him back just days after cutting him, suggesting they still value old blood on the roster. Juszczyk will join Kyle Shanahan‘s team as they look to rally after a disastrous 2024 season.

The move, though surprising, had a very NFL explanation: money. With salary cap acrobatics becoming the unofficial sport of the offseason, the Niners parted ways with Juszczyk to recalibrate financially. He was due $4.6 million for the upcoming season, and the team, amid roster shakeups and bigger fish to fund, needed some wiggle room.

“At the end of the day, I feel like I have the best opportunity in the world to play here for the Niners,” Juszczyk admitted. “I do think that I’m being taken care of in a good way as a fullback on this team. I am happy with my role.”

It took four days for the stars to align for both parties. On March 15, 2025, a new two-year $7.5M deal was signed, reuniting the 49ers with their favorite fullback. After the news was official, the 49ers’ team running back Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle shared stories on Instagram, celebrating the reunion.

Translation? 49ers needed to clean out the financial closet but weren’t ready to throw away their favorite hoodie.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the 49ers make the right call bringing Juszczyk back, or was it just nostalgia?

Have an interesting take?

Juszczyk, ever the professional, handled the twist with grace. He acknowledged the sting of being released but remained bullish on San Francisco’s future. The 9-time consecutive Pro Bowler has been with the 49ers since 2017. During his stay, he has delivered his career-best in 2018, recording 324 receiving yards in 16 games. The fan-favorite fullback was also the first-team All-Pro in 2023 and second-team All-Pro in 2024.

General Manager John Lynch said, “Sometimes… you have to go through that process to know how much this place meant to him. We did what we could do at the end and we met at a place where we were both happy.”

Fans, meanwhile, went from heartbreak to hallelujah faster than a Christian McCaffrey cutback.

Kristin Juszczyk’s emotional reaction to Kyle’s 49ers return

It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for the 49ers fans in this transition of 4 days. Kyle’s brief exit disappointed fans, but imagine how his No.1 supporter took this. Kristin Juszczyk’s social media posts reflect just how she held her breath before letting out a sigh of relief.

Looking back at Kyle’s time with the 49ers, Kristin shared a sweet video on IG on Saturday. “This past week has really made Kyle and I reflect on our past 8 years in the Bay. We turned friends into family here. We won championships here and we lost championships here,” she wrote on her IG post.  The fashion icon further added, “We feel so blessed to have called to have called bay home for the past 8 years… We’re forever faithful.”

Since signing with San Francisco in 2017, Juszczyk redefined what it means to be a fullback in the modern NFL. Over the years, he’s been more than just a bruising blocker. Juszczyk has racked up over 1800 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns, proving he can make his way into the end zone when needed. His versatility has earned him nine consecutive Pro Bowl selections, making him the most decorated fullback of his era.

Whether he’s paving the way for Christian McCaffrey or slipping into the flat for a clutch reception, he’s been one of the most reliable weapons in Shanahan’s offensive arsenal.

Kristin has been Kyle’s ultimate hype woman for years, but this time, her support hit differently. The NFL may treat players like assets, but to her, Kyle is much more than just a fullback—he’s her entire world. With No. 44 officially staying with the 49ers, she’s back to faithfully cheering him on.

San Francisco keeps one of its most beloved veterans, and Juszczyk gets to continue doing what he does best—clearing paths, catching passes, and proving that fullbacks still matter in the NFL.
