2024 has been a roller coaster year for the Chiefs. Despite its strong win-loss record, the team has experienced various hurdles, including setbacks, injuries, and criticism. Let’s talk about the last part, in fact. The bashing of the team has become so severe that even legendary coaches such as Rex Ryan have labeled the team’s captain Patrick Mahomes “sick.” But, like two aspects of a coin, the Chiefs are receiving a lot of acclaim as well. Big names such as Alex Smith are praising how well the team has managed themselves.

For those who have missed it, Alex Smith appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio, where the Chiefs were discussed. Once this conversation picked up, the former quarterback said a lot of positive things. He pointed out that the team used to be an offensive blast, but now they have a superior defense. Not only that, but we can see how hard they’ve worked on the offense to balance it out. Although they have lost several key players, the squad still has Patrick Mahomes. And yeah, the PatomicBomb is really a player that can make a huge difference. “When you have an elite defense and a bunch of the talent that’s over there on that side of the ball, you pair it with an efficient offense and a QB like Patrick, like, you know, all of a sudden you see it 13 and one. And again, I think that’s what’s been amazing to watch.” Smith explained.

The former QB continued, “So we’ve seen him go out there and do it in the Super Bowl with, With a hurt ankle and still play at a high level, And again, I just go back to this, this guy loves this man. He loves this more than, than, than anyone. And if he can play, he is going to be out there.”

While these words are great, they are being overshadowed by the bashing Rex Ryan did. The man was pretty ruthless but what did he exactly claim?

Rex Ryan does not take Patrick Mahomes or the Chiefs seriously

In an interview in week 15, Rex Ryan disclosed his negative thoughts on the Chiefs and declared that they have nothing exceptional. Not only that, but he thinks that they aren’t even the top team this season. He indicated that at least four other teams are more dangerous than them. The most shocking element of his statement was when he described Patrick Mahomes as a sick athlete. Ouch.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Rex Ryan right about the Chiefs, or is he just stirring the pot for attention?

Have an interesting take?

Ryan stated, “(The Chiefs) have an outstanding coach. Andy Reid’s amazing. Their quarterback is sick. Absolutely sick. (Steve) Spagnuolo’s defense is really good.” This was not it, as the former coach even claimed, “I know what the record says. That they’re tied with Detroit, really? And I always talk about the knockout punch. But really taking a deeper dive into Kansas City, the point differential, they’re 11th.”

He didn’t hold back, taking shots at the defense by claiming they’re so weak that even the coach himself can break them at this age. That’s a bold insult aimed straight at the heart of the Chiefs’ pride. While Kansas City might be sitting pretty right now, comments like these could shake the Chiefdom’s morale. Perhaps it’s time for Patrick Mahomes and the crew to not just win but utterly dominate their games—just to hush the haters. Will they rise to the challenge and shut down the trash talk? Stay tuned; this could get spicy!
