There has already been enough talk about whether or not the Chiefs are as strong as everyone thinks. Chiefs fans will probably say yes, but their offense tells a different story. Many of us have noticed that they are barely scraping by in a few games. It’s a given that Andy Reid must address his team’s offensive line issues. Otherwise, there’s a chance their luck might run out on the big day. It might also be time for a quick chat with Patrick Mahomes. He’s been looking pretty frustrated with how the offense has been performing lately.

Patrick Mahomes might be the star QB of the season for his fans, but the hard truth is that his performance hasn’t quite been up to the mark. In 12 games so far, Mahomes has managed to score 19 touchdowns and has run for 2,979 yards. But here’s the shocker, he’s been sacked 32 times, the most in his 8-year career. It looks like the QB himself has had enough of the offensive line failing to protect him while he’s carrying the ball.

The former Chiefs QB Alex Smith has expressed his concerns over this. On ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, Smith, while discussing Mahomes’ frustration with the offensive lineup, said, You know, they kept having all these drops. No receivers were stepping up or reliable and we saw this same kind of body language on the field frustration finally boiling over and this is leadership, right?”

The Chiefs’ struggles with the offensive tackles have been pretty evident throughout the last few games. Now, reports are saying that Andy Reid is ready to make a change to the offensive lineup for the third time ahead of the game with the Chargers. This time, the Chiefs will be stepping onto the field with D.J. Humphries as the new left tackle. The 30-year-old signed with the team mid-season after parting ways with the Arizona Cardinals.

So, can D.J. Humphries be the offensive tackle Patrick Mahomes has been needing?

Maybe he is the answer to the Chiefs’ scoring concerns. After recovering from an ACL injury, reports say he’s all set to start as the left tackle for the Chiefs in their upcoming game.

“And you’re seeing DJ Humphries again coming in, and he’s making the start this week. Listen, they want a Super Bowl with Donovan Smith, a very similar just kind of journeyman veteran tackle that could play,” said Alex Smith. He compared Humphries to Donovan Smith, who helped the Chiefs lift a Super Bowl trophy in his first year with the team. The former Chiefs QB looks pretty much confident in D.J.
