Caleb Williams has been nonchalant about the NFL drafts lately. He knows he got a guaranteed spot with the Chicago Bears. He might also know that the Bears would optimize their team to fit the correct weapons around him. It’s common knowledge at this point, and Matt Eberflus is doing all he can to facilitate this draft smoothly.

Besides being a much-anticipated NFL entry, the USC quarterback already has a pretty good NIL, and his image has made him rich through commercials and other partnerships. In the wake of the upcoming drafts, Bears HC Eberflus decided to talk to the Hoge & Jahns podcast. The show’s hosts wanted to know how the Bears are preparing to host the superstar quarterback.

After Williams garnered a respectable NIL and prepared to enter the league, the Bears HC feels confident in Caleb Williams. The fact that he’s amassed so much attention and did commercials with Nissan and Dr. Pepper makes much more of a case for him being an influential athlete. The Bears HC believes in Williams and that the quarterback knows what he is doing. Moreover, he thinks the Bears are equipped to welcome him and other new prospects readily.

“Yeah, we actually look at it as a positive because he’s already ahead of the game, you know, in terms of working through sponsorships that he has and all the things that he’s working through. He’s already got a leg up so to speak.” The coach pointed out that it’s usually the other way around. The rookies end up in the NFL and adjust to attention, while Caleb Williams has been there and done that.

Now, he won’t have to worry about things like learning how to carry himself and whatnot. He can just get to business and start playing football in the NFL. But it’s not like Eberflus is making stuff up out of thin air. He actually had a lengthy conversation with the quarterback in person. But are they equipped to handle the quarterback?

Eberflus was impressed by Williams on his Pro Day

First, the Bears HC witnessed Williams just like he saw him in the film. He loved him so much that he invited the quarterback and his receivers to dinner hosted by the Bears. He was impressed with all the respect that Williams had from his peers after he met them on their Pro Day. However, being impressed is one thing; maintaining a generational talent is a different ball game and requires some preparation.

As mentioned earlier, the players making it to the NFL now are used to making money through NIL deals. People like Shedeur Sanders and Arch Manning, who will enroll in the draft next year, are already millionaires. So, what should the Bears do to facilitate a smooth transaction? They can hire good offensive weapons to pair with Caleb Williams through trade or drafting. The team already signed WR Dante Pettis and Keenan Allen. They also acquired D’Andre Swift recently. The addition of TE Gerald Everett also looks like a sound decision.

They also retained several O-line players and safeties or traded for them. But despite all the speculation, the Chicago team is still looking at prospects like JJ McCarthy, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye.

These incidents make us more confident that both parties have a vested interest in each other. On the one hand, the Bears are the easiest entry point for the quarterback; on the other, the Bears get a super-talented quarterback. It’s a win-win situation.
