Patrick Mahomes’ first Super Bowl championship win seems like it took place yesterday. Four years flew by quickly, and it’s also taking a toll on the quarterback. Football is demanding, and growing old doesn’t do wonders for the body, except if you’re Tom Brady. The Chiefs’ QB sat the Week 18 game out, and Blaine Gabbert got the chance because maybe Mahomes doesn’t want to get in harm’s way.

The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Miami Dolphins for a Wild Card game to get a chance to go into the playoffs. In the wake of the upcoming matchup, he took the podium and dropped hints of what would occur at the Arrowhead on Sunday. He also discussed why he didn’t play the Week 18 game against the LA Chargers.

Is Patrick Mahomes under duress?

The Chiefs QB seemed excited about the next game at the Arrowhead and said that the conditions are perfect and that football is for cold weather. A reporter in the room asked him about the benefits of not sitting it out against the Chargers. Amid many injuries on the roster, Mahomes was cautious and didn’t want to end up on the list. Per him, he just wanted to be “healthy” for what was about to come.

Another reporter then asked the Chiefs QB if the rest was necessary and if there was some persisting problem in his ankle that forced him to do so. “I’m getting old, man. I need a break every once in a while.” He mentioned that taking a break has also allowed him to watch his teammates play and “watch them succeed.”

For now, Mahomes is focused on putting his best foot forward and taking it one play at a time. Hopefully, he will be at his peak on Sunday. Well, it’s not just about him getting old. We know that football is a risky and tiring game. By the time the regular season ends, everyone is seemingly injured or tired. Mahomes’ inconsistent performance in the last couple of games indicates that.

The going will get more challenging from this point onward. Hopefully, Mahomes and the men in red are fully healed and ready to play against the Dolphins because the Miami team is just as desperate for a win. The Chiefs are at an advantage, first because it’s their home turf and second because of the weather. The Dolphins are not used to cold weather, which might be challenging. Who will win the SNF?
