After coming off a disappointing 21-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl rematch, the Kansas City Chiefs went on to win against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12. But come Week 13, and they lost one more game. This time to the Green Bay Packers. The Super Bowl defending champions are now 8-4 and their offense is nowhere near the one that carried the 2022 season for them.

Is one man responsible for the Chiefs’ offensive woes? After a season that saw the Raiders and the Carolina Panthers fire important people from the coaching staff for poor performance, is it possible that the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Matt Nagy could be the next? And is there still hope for the OC?

Kansas City finally broke their 3-game streak of not scoring in the second half of the game during last Sunday Night Football game. But it was clear that the entire offense was struggling in the 27-19 loss to the Packers. The receivers struggled to connect on passes with QB Patrick Mahomes and wideouts such as Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Justin Watson, were disappointed with their drops that could have won the game for their team.

Recently, OC Matt Nagy had talked about the recent shortcomings of the offense, but instead of acknowledging where they had gone wrong, he just insisted on focussing on the positive. “I think we need to understand that we have good things ahead of us, let’s just stay positive and work through these and we’ll be alright.”

Although it seems unlikely that the Chiefs will fire Nagy, who has been with the Chiefs for 2 years now, the axe could fall on him during the off-season. But is there anything that he could do to avoid being shown the door?

How can Matt Nagy redeem himself this season?

The main problem with the Chiefs’ offense has been the disconnect between Mahomes and his wide receivers. This is especially problematic for the Chiefs since their play style is so dependent on the passing game. If Matt Nagy fails to fix the aerial attack, the Chiefs could lose out on a playoff berth despite being one of the most elite teams in the league.

The Chiefs also have a league-leading statistic which is not very encouraging. After the Packers game, their number of dropped passes stands at 26. But Matt Nagy came out in defense of his wideouts. “In the end, we have a lot of trust in these guys, and we believe in them. I think that’s very very important.”
