Noah Lyles can't back his talk—should he stay out of NBA stars' business?

Track star Noah Lyles made outlandish claims last year, which landed him in hot waters. After winning the gold medal in a 200-meter event at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, he mocked NBA players. Laughing at the NBA, he said, “World Champions of what, USA” A rant so epic that it triggered the NBA universe. The NFL wasn’t far behind. Players take pride in being Super Bowl winners and claim to be world champions.

One of the fastest footballers, Tyreek Hill, aptly nicknamed Cheetah, took offense at Lyles’ comments. Talking to Kay Adams on the Up & Adams show on August 12, he even challenged the Olympian to a 200-meter race and declared he would defeat him. The WR said that the sprinter should speak only about what he knows (track). A retired NFL player turned analyst put his stamp of approval on Hill’s views.

Mike Golic rates Noah Lyles much below Usain Bolt and Carl Lewis

While speaking on the GoJo & Golic show on the 13th of August, Jessie Coffield stated, “I didn’t know who Noah Lyles was until he started beefing with the NBA.” That’s true! Those who didn’t know him were stunned by his bold comments, but in a negative way. Others also had the same view.

Mike Golic minced no words criticizing the Olympian. Retired DT claimed such bold statements were not helping the track star as he was not winning. If you didn’t get it, Lyles won the gold medal in the 100-meter event but failed to win the gold medal in the 200-meter sprint and had to settle with bronze. Golic pointed out his loss in his signature event in the back-to-back Olympics and said, “He won the 100, he didn’t win his signature event, two Olympics in a row.” He is right there. Noah Lyles had to settle with Bronze (in 200 meters) in 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The veteran analyst then compared him to greats Usain Bolt & Carl Lewis and added, “You got Usain Bolt became a household name by dominating the 100. You got Carl Lewis, who won 9 gold medals back in 1984. So he’s playing the negative role, but he’s not winning.” Golic asserted that while the Olympian was making such negative comments, he wasn’t winning medals at the required rate to be better than his statements. Now, that’s a barb.

While Lyles didn’t win gold in 200 m, his reason for losing wasn’t well-received. Lyles claimed he tested positive for COVID two days before the event. But Hill wasn’t taking that excuse. While criticizing the Olympian for pretending a sickness instead of accepting the result, Hill jokingly said, “When I beat him (Noah Lyles), I’m going to put on a COVID mask.” NFL fans liked the reply.

Hill isn’t making waves for his replies, his performance also speaks volumes.

Tyreek Hill disrespects Patrick Mahomes

Just a few days back, the WR declared the Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes as his favourite QB in an Instagram Q&A with fans. But just like he goes past tackles on the field with his speed, his speed of changing his favorites is also too much to handle. During his discussion with Kay Adams, he again changed his favorite QB, saying, “Patrick Mahomes is one of a kind. He’s one of those guys that can roll to the left and throw back to his right, cross his body and do all that special stuff. But I’m saying as far as a quarterback aspect wise or like what you think about like a prototypical quarterback, Tua is that guy.” While Tua Tagovailoa might be happy, the Grim Reaper might find hard to understand such disrespect from his former teammate.

Chiefs QB is already reeling from being named number 4 in the TOP 100 Players of 2024. Even with back-to-back Super Bowls, the NFL fraternity doesn’t consider him good enough to rate him among the top 3. Hill didn’t feel good when the Chiefs defeated them in wildcard playoffs last year. And this change in heart might be his way to indicate competition in the upcoming season.

The season is less than a month away.  Hill’s only Super Bowl victory was with the Chiefs in 2019. Can he use his speed to win another Lombardi Trophy? Everyone is waiting to see him back in action.
