Nick Wright recently spun an interesting angle about Joe Burrow and questioned whether he was fit to be the Cincinnati Bengals’ QB1 in the upcoming season. It’s no mystery that Burrow’s wrist injury has surely diluted some of his magic and the QB might not be the same in the future. His injury is one of a kind and hasn’t been encountered in the league yet.

Continuing the narrative, the NFL analyst went on Colin Cowherd’s podcast and talked about whether Burrow has already peaked or if there’s still some football left in him. It’s increasingly becoming a possibility that the Bengals may have to look for a new QB in the future and Burrow might get upset with it. Just like Tom Brady was when the Pats got Jimmy Garoppolo.

Nick Wright sparked off the conversation when he said, “We maybe have already seen the best of, like the best of Joe Burrow we already saw and,” and added, “He’s not going to reach that level again.” But to Wright’s surprise, Colin Cowherd couldn’t disagree more to his statement and thought that Burrow still had a chance.

“No, but I do think one more injury, and the Bengals have to draft another quarterback near the top first-second-third round,” explained Cowherd as he pointed out the example of the Falcons drafting Michael Penix Jr. as a backup behind Kirk Cousins. The Cincinnati Bengals boast Jake Browning and Logan Woodside as Burrow’s backup QBs, which is not enough.

Cowherd pointed out that Burrow might have to get along with the idea of having a backup QB to replace him sooner or later, judging the looks of things. He pointed out an example of Tom Brady, but it has a different significance to it.

“Brady didn’t like it because he never got hurt with Garoppolo and Big Ben similarly, ‘hey I’m still I can chug along my injuries are fine.’ But I think Burrow is going to have to own, ‘he this team needs a backup,” said Cowherd of Burrow’s situation.

What the host said about Brady, Garoppolo and Burrow might serve as a reminder for Burrow that he needs to either adjust to the idea of someone else leading or get better soon.

Tom Brady was reportedly not happy when the Patriots drafted Jimmy Garoppolo in 2014. Belichick justified this move by saying, “We know what Tom’s age and contract situation is.” Though the pick caught him off-guard, Brady ended up winning another Super Bowl and claiming his spot. However, there was a sense of disappointment that anyone could pick coming from the QB.

“I really felt like I was giving my heart to the team, the city. I felt like I was setting down my roots, because I had committed to being in Boston. And then I didn’t necessarily feel like, ‘Oh, well that’s reciprocating,’” said Brady in the Man in the Arena documentary and added, “But I recognize I’m no different than those other positions on the team. Like, I still gotta go out there and perform at a high level and earn my job.”

While we haven’t seen any such emotions coming from Joe Burrow, we cannot ignore the fact that it might become his reality soon, and the QB needs to be prepared for it. As per his latest injury report, Burrow has been practicing with the Bengals squad and they feel confident in him.
