CeeDee Lamb on the field Week One—Is this the boost the Cowboys need for a strong start?

Finally, the Dallas Cowboys can take a sigh of relief! The last few days have been a roller coaster ride for CeeDee Lamb, the wide receiver for America’s team. Being in the midst of contract negotiations, he has been on holdout from team activities, hoping for a contract extension that matches the hefty deals other top NFL receivers have secured. While Jerry Jones mentioned that there was “no urgency” to sign Lamb, Stephen Jones gave some different hints. Appearing on The Doomsday Podcast, the CEO indicated the Cowboys have “zero interest” in letting Lamb go!

And now things might be shifting in a big way. Recent speculation indicates that after Stephen promised a $140 million contract to the star WR, Lamb will soon appear on the gridiron for the Cowboys’ Week 1 game against the Cleveland Browns. Analysts believe this massive deal could bring CeeDee into the Cowboys, right in time to kick off the season. One contract is all it takes to get the right player on your team!

To add more drama to the story, Dianna Russini, the senior NFL Insider, and former NFL player Chase Daniel got into the nitty-gritty of CeeDee Lamb’s contract situation during today’s episode of Scoop City. Russini stated, CeeDee Lamb is still not there at the training camp. Dak Prescott’s deal is still incomplete. Micah Parson’s deal not done. They are though, Dak and Micah are there and CeeDee Lamb has been staying away. From everything we gather, in terms of the intel of this, this is going to get done and we are going to see CeeDee Lamb out there in week one.”

The analyst also highlighted how Jerry Jones has been playing all these fun games with other players as well, including Ezekiel Elliott. When Jones’ said “Zeke who?” She also discussed how Jerry told the media that he was in no hurry to sign Lamb and how that statement stirred things up! And how could she forget to mention the WR’s response to it, the classic “Lol!

Dianna and Chase even laughed about how the whole situation turned out to be funny when a fan printed the tweet and showed it to Jerry. The duo then spilled the tea on Jones’ response to it, saying, “CeeDee is missed.” After analyzing the whole mess, Dianna is sure that CeDee will end up playing for the Cowboys. Russini stated, “Just based on talking to people around the league and those involved, I don’t see a world where CeeDee Lamb is not suiting up and playing in a game week one. I feel really strongly that this is going to get done, and he’s going to get close to the number, if not the number he’s looking for.” She’s sure that it’s a done deal!

When Daniel asked the analyst, “What is the number he’s looking for”, she replied, “Justin Jefferson. I think it’s gonna be right in that range.” In June this year, Justin and the Minnesota Vikings signed a $140 million four-year contract. But, the big question is whether the Dallas Cowboys would agree to a hefty $140 million contract. Well, Dianna has an interesting take on it. She shared that Stephen Jones had actually confirmed on Scoop City that this was the amount Lamb was seeking. The real question now is whether the Cowboys can meet that expectation. She revealed, “Stephen Jones came on the show and said it to us that, that was what he was looking for. He’s the one who told us. It was just a matter of are they going to be able to get there.”

How does Lamb’s holdout affect the Cowboys?

CeeDee Lamb’s holdout has major financial implications for both him and the Dallas Cowboys. His absence has temporarily freed up approximately $17m in cap space for the team and enhanced their financial flexibility. Lamb, set to earn $17.9m in 2024, aims to secure a contract matching the high-value deals in the league.

Cowboys understand their star WR’s importance and, in recent comments, Jerry expressed his understanding of the anxiety surrounding the negotiations. Jones clarified that, while not urgent in the short term, securing Lamb’s commitment remains important for the team. He stated, “I think I got in trouble about it the other day when I said, ‘Look, we’re not urgent about CeeDee.’ Well, no one appreciates CeeDee being on the field any more than I do.” The Cowboys owner also mentioned he misses Lamb and stated, “Well, CeeDee, you’re missed, OK?

Reports suggest that Lamb’s return for the season opener is highly likely. The insiders predict that the WR and the team will bridge the gaps in negotiations before the game. The urgency for both sides to reach an agreement stems from Lamb’s status as a premier wide receiver. The player has led the NFL with 135 receptions and passing for 1,749 yards in the previous season.

However, with Lamb staying away from the camps and Dallas struggling to match the $140 million contract, it is uncertain what the future holds for the star WR and the Cowboys.
