Did Patrick Mahomes' absence at his dad's charity event hint at a deeper family rift?

Patrick Mahomes is just as wholesome and relatable off the football field as he’s on it. More snippets of his personal life made the light when he spoke to Carrington Harrison in the recent episode of The Dive on 610 Sports Radio. But there’s a particular question that caught our attention. Has Mahomes ever upped his dad in any sports when he was a kid?

Like many young boys, Mahomes played sports with his dad growing up. But Mahomes’ experience was a bit different. His dad was a professional athlete, and the Chiefs’ QB recently took a trip down memory lane of playing with him as a kid. “I don’t know if it was the first time I ever beat my dad. But the first time I beat him in golf, I had to be I think it was after I left college and my first year playing in the NFL, just because, I mean, in basketball and stuff like that. That stuff happened, I think, probably in high school, but that was the one I hurt him the most, was me being on the golf course,” Mahomes said.

While the 3x Super Bowl winner was never big on golf in his college days, he became increasingly interested in the sport since he joined the NFL. He has his own golfing line with Adidas. What more can we say about his love for the sport? He regularly participates in charity events and even got an invitation from Bryson DeChambeau.

DeChambeau hinted at tee time with Mahomes and Kelce and implored them to “Break 50” following the QB’s post on X praising the golfer for his “GREAT bunker shot!” in the last hole of the US Open that happened in late July this year. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen the KC QB play a lot of golf with his dad till now.

The back-to-back SB winner had an opportunity to do so but didn’t attend the game for some reason.

On August 16, Pat Mahomes Sr. hosted a charity golf event at Dub’s Dread Golf Club to raise funds for Happy Hearts Working, B&M Ballers Little League, and the KCK Public Schools Foundation for Excellence. Unfortunately, Mahomes wasn’t in attendance. However, his younger brother Jackson filled in the gap and played to support his father.

The father-son duo was spotted wearing matching shirts when the young social media star posted a snap with him. “Thanks Lo Jack for coming out to support and help with the golf tournament. Love you and had a blast,” Pat Mahomes Sr. wrote after hosting the Golf event that had a $10k prize for hole-in-one.

Mahomes’ father was celebrating a very significant milestone that day. He was six months sober after a DUI he got around the time of Super Bowl LVIII. People seemed to think there was a rift between Patrick Mahomes and his father since he didn’t wish him Father’s Day or attend the charity golf event. However, the KC quarterback got around to wishing him later when he posted a childhood photo of himself with his dad.

But maybe people leaned too much into Mahomes not being on good terms with his father. The QB might not have been a star in the league if it weren’t for his father’s influence.
