Patrick Mahomes’ style when it comes to silencing the naysayers is applause-worthy. Back in June, on Father’s Day, the quarterback’s father and former baseball player, Pat Mahomes, posted a carousel on Instagram with pictures of Patrick with his kids, Sterling and Bronze. “Happy Fathers Day,” read the caption, but surprisingly, the quarterback didn’t react. And this radio silence was enough to get the NFL town buzzing. However, two weeks later, Mahomes has finally put an end to all speculation surrounding the father-son duo.

What made Patrick Mahomes’ silence when it came to his father’s post even more surprising was that he responded to his wife, Brittany’s post. As she called him “the MVP Dad,” the 28-year-old replied, “Love yall!!! ❤️❤️” In fact, he shared a few family photos on his own Instagram story to celebrate the occasion. And seeing as he neither publicly wished Pat Mahomes nor responded to his post, it was only a matter of time before people started putting two and two together. But with just one play, the quarterback dismissed all those inferences.

On July 1, 2024, Patrick Mahomes retweeted a snap where Mahomes Sr was holding him as a toddler. The iconic photo is from the baseball pitcher’s playing days and is a favorite among the Mahomes faithful. Thanks to the 53-year-old, Mahomes Jr developed a passion for sports and has now become one of the greatest athletes in the NFL!

In the picture, the father-son duo is focused on a small baseball bat suited to toddler Patrick Mahomes, as the toddler donned an adorable Minnesota Twins jersey, his father’s team at the time. Hardly anyone in the football world will be unaware of Patrick’s talent for baseball. During his high school and college years, he participated in both games. In fact, as he was graduating high school in 2014, the MLB’s Detroit Tigers chose him in the 37th round of the draft that year. Ultimately, Mahomes followed his passion for football despite his dad believing he would be a baseball player.

In 2023, Mahomes Sr told the Los Angeles Times, “He grew up in the clubhouse, he was always around the game, and he was always the best player on his baseball team. He was an unbelievable shortstop, he always led his team in hitting, and he threw 97 mph on the mound. So, I always thought he was gonna be a baseball player.”

The 28-year-old, however, did play for the Red Raiders baseball team for one season, recording two at-bats as a pinch hitter and making an appearance as a relief pitcher. There’s a high chance he would’ve stuck to baseball had it not been for a conversation he had with his mother, Randi. When Mahomes was in his sophomore year of high school, he came very close to quitting football. But Randi sat him down and said, “If you quit, you’re going to be bored in the stands.” And that was all he needed to hear.

Coming back to his X activity. As the rumor mill kept running since Father’s Day because Mahomes replied to Brittany’s wish but didn’t even react to his dad’s post, this social media gesture from the QB has switched it off. That said, the NFL star is currently having a blast on a month-long holiday in Portugal with his wife and children. His reaction might stem from his need to separate his personal life from his professional one. After all, the hardcore Mahomies know already that the Kansas City Chiefs idol isn’t a fan of airing his dirty laundry.

Patrick Mahomes is keen on keeping his family situations private

Right before the Super Bowl LVIII game against the 49ers, Patrick Mahomes was asked about his father’s third DUI arrest. The 28-year-old shut down the query right away and called it a “family matter.” The Texas native took a similar approach in 2023 as well when he brushed aside questions about brother Jackson Mahomes’ arrest.

However, when it comes to praising his family, Mahomes does not hold back. After his legendary 2019 ‘no-look’ pass to Demarcus Robinson, the master quarterback credited his father for putting him through rigid training sessions during his amateur baseball days. Mahomes Jr claimed, “My dad has had me long tossing since, well, forever. I think that helped build arm strength, helped build accuracy, and touch… That’s something that I’ve always done. I brought it immediately into football.”

These reflect the characteristics of the quarterback under public scrutiny. He efficiently plays the role of a public figure as he keeps his family issues inside the house but doesn’t shy away from endorsing any positive development in the Mahomes household.
