“I feel I haven’t played well.” That’s not what you expect to hear from a quarterback who just led his team to a 3-0 start, right? But that’s Patrick Mahomes for you. He’s his own biggest critic, always aiming for perfection. Sure, some fans might think he’s being too hard on himself, but that’s exactly what separates Mahomes from the rest. He doesn’t settle, even after a win. And that’s something Bill Belichick can’t help but admire.
Belichick, in his chat with Pat McAfee, pointed out that Mahomes’ constant drive for improvement makes him stand out. “They’re 3-0… but there’s Mahomes talking about how bad they’re playing,” Belichick noted, adding, “That’s the attitude of a champion right there. It just jumps off the screen at you.” And Bill would know a thing or two about ‘champions’ wouldn’t he? Well, considering he coached Tom Brady. Not only that, the two built the Patriots Dynasty. So, it’d be wise to trust Bill’s comments on Pat.

He believes Patrick Mahomes sets the bar not just for himself but for his entire team. Imagine being a teammate and hearing your star QB say he’s got to do better. You’re going to step up too, right? That’s what great leaders do–they inspire everyone around them.
And let’s be real, Mahomes’ numbers aren’t shabby. Sure, by his standards, they might not be record-breaking, but 442 yards, 3 touchdowns, and a 3-0 start? Some QBs would take that in a heartbeat. Yet, he’s not satisfied. He’s talking about how “much better they need to be“–and not just the team, but starting with himself. You’ve got to respect that level of accountability, especially when most players would be basking in the win.
Now, Mahomes threw for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Chiefs’ 22-17 win against the Falcons. But even in victory, he’s quick to put the focus on how much work still lies ahead. That’s the thing with Mahomes–he’s not just playing the game; he’s playing for greatness. He knows the road to another championship isn’t going to be easy, and he’s ready to grind for it.
Guess that’s why Big Bill believes that the Chiefs would complete the 3-peat, riding on the back of Patrick Mahomes.

“If anybody can do it, it’s probably Kansas City!” This was what Belichick had to say on the Chiefs’ chances of doing the unprecedented, ahead of the 2024 season. You wanna know the reason? Well, you guessed it right! It was Patrick Mahomes.
There’s something about Mahomes that gives off that Tom Brady vibe. It’s the way he leads, the way he makes everyone around him better. Belichick even went on The Pat McAfee Show to highlight this, comparing Mahomes’ leadership to what Tom Brady brought to the Patriots. “They [the Chiefs] have great leadership from Patrick Mahomes & we had that with Tom Brady.”
High praise, right? And Belichick didn’t stop there. He mentioned how every year brings different challenges, but great leadership like Mahomes’ can rise above it all. That’s the magic. Now, if anyone knows about the weight of a three-peat, it’s Belichick. He was the mastermind behind the Patriots’ back-to-back wins in 2003 and 2004. But even he couldn’t make it ‘3-in-a-row’, courtesy of an inspired Denver Broncos side.

Still, Belichick believes the Chiefs can very well do what he failed to accomplish. All the while, riding on the back of Mahomes. Yes! For KC to bring him home another Lombardi, Showtime is key. Now, combine that with the fact that he’s not just playing for another ring; he’s playing to etch his name in the history books. Scary, right? His opponents are certainly facing that in the opening three weeks of the 2024 season. The same relentless drive Brady had!
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington said it the best in July, “It’s not about chasing Brady’s seven rings just yet, but about doing what’s never been done before.” The fatigue is real, the pressure is massive, but Mahomes has been here before. As he said back in February, it’s tough but not impossible. What do you think? Is Mahomes on the verge of his own kingdom? He’s got the start that was needed. Now, it’s just about finishing it off well.
