Patrick Mahomes continues to surprise football fans all across the world. His latest achievement puts him next to the likes of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. So, what is this achievement? Mahomes won the ESPY Award for NFL Best Player once again!
ESPN broke out the news about who was going to win their prestigious award this time. It sure was a tough competition with players like Lamar Jackson, Myles Garrett, and Christian McCaffrey making it to the final list. But as it stands, Mahomes etched his name alongside the multiple-time ESPY winners. He won his first title in 2019, then in 2023, and now, this year again.
This puts him beside other 3x ESPY NFL winners Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. The only player who will be tough to beat at the moment would be Aaron Rodgers, who has won 4 ESPYs under the category in his career.

The current honor of the Chiefs QB though draws a reminder of his major victories from last year’s ESPY awards, where his name stood proudly beside the soccer legend Lionel Messi. It was last year when the soccer legend Lionel Messi made his MLS debut with Inter Miami and in his years managed to clear two awards in the same event.
But coming back to the present, the hosts of NFL on ESPN didn’t miss his highlights from the postseason games, especially the Super Bowl and the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens. His game-winning pass to Mecole Hardman was something that the panel and the jury couldn’t ignore. The fact that Mahomes played the whole season without a decent wideout core also made a case for his victory.
“He makes this stuff now look routine. It’s not a big deal anymore. The extraordinary is ordinary to him and that’s just amazing. It’s amazing his career arc. It started off on fire and has not cooled off one bit,” said the ESPN host.
Mahomes put up 333 yards in that game and had nearly a 74% pass completion rate with two touchdowns. He makes it look easy on the field which not a lot of players are able to do. Another thing that most players aren’t able to do is to win 2 ESPY awards on the same night. But then again, it’s Patrick Mahomes and we expect nothing less from him at this point.

Is Patrick Mahomes already surpassing Tom Brady and Peyton Manning in terms of legacy and impact?

The ceremony took place on 12 July 2023, and Messi made a statement by bagging the Best Championship Performance for his world cup win and Best Soccer Player Awards hosted by ESPN. Surprisingly, Mahomes beat the 8x Ballon d’Or winner in the Best Athlete category and Best NFL Star award simultaneously. To his defense, Mahomes was coming off a Super Bowl win and even overtook Novak Djokovic and Aaron Judge in the race.

Surprisingly, when Messi came to Arrowhead to play against Sporting KC, he didn’t recognize Patrick Mahomes, who shook his hands and wished him luck for the game ahead. But coming back to his latest win, Mahomes’ Super Bowl performance had a lot to do with him winning the NFL Best Player Award in 2024.

The common factor behind both of these wins is that Mahomes was coming off a Super Bowl championship both times. Also, passing athletes like Djokovic and Aaron Judge is not an easy task considering how they are the best players in their trades too.
