Another year, another major deal for the NFL. Commissioner Roger Goodell has startled the world with a massive uniform deal. The man has officially inked a 13-year contract extension with Nike, as the NFL’s official uniform partner. Goodell shocked everyone and claimed, “It’s one of those rare deals that actually touches the game.” While the Commissioner’s comments had some truth to it, the fans are not happy with this contract.

For those who missed it, supporters are demanding that Reebok should return as the uniform partner. If you recall, the NFL inked an agreement with Reebok in 2000, which began formally in 2002. It was a 10-year deal worth approximately $250 million. During those ten years, supporters were quite delighted with the uniforms and believed that NFL costume design was at its height at the time.

The report about Roger Goodell’s signing stated, “The NFL announces a 13-year extension with Nike to continue as its uniform partner. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell: ‘It’s one of those rare deals that actually touches the game.'”

Surprisingly, the NFL received many more offers from other brands as well. While the other proposals were similarly decent, there was a vote at the board meeting. And, as we can see, Nike emerged as the favorite. The reason for that is reported to be the fact that Nike can help, “export American football overseas by promoting the sport and athletes in key markets.”

But if that is the case, why do fans dislike the deal? Let us have a peek at some comments to find out.

While it may sound uneven, the overall story is that some fans believe Nike is not giving the NFL their all. The jerseys can be substantially higher quality than what the company currently produces. Furthermore, the fans said that the NFL should be stricter this time if they wanted a quality product from Nike. The comment read, “Reebok was much better quality, Nike has a lot more to offer the NFL. Cheaper quality, cheaper child labor and a much worse product for the fans – quality of their uniforms is terrible as are their ugly kits. Big loss for fans.”

While Nike came under fire, fans began to demand Reebok kits from the NFL. One fan even claimed that, “The Reebok jerseys were much higher quality.” Fans pointed out that it wasn’t only about quality and design. They believe that their jerseys are more suited to the NFL than the Nike ones. The fan stated, “Reebok jerseys were better.”
