We might have a superhuman in the NFL. While most of us can’t imagine being on our feet after a disastrous injury such as an ACL tear, Nick Chubb is not only en route to recovery but is already training with more than double his weight!
The Cleveland Browns running back suffered from the disheartening injury in week 2 of last year’s season and had to undergo leg surgery. Less than eight months have passed, and Chubb has everybody shocked with the viral video of him squatting 540 pounds in the gym. A former Steelers wide receiver put fans’ astonishment into words in a recent interview.

Having played 12 seasons in the NFL, the former football WR has an understanding of the players and injuries like no other. “I never thought Nick Chubb would play football again,” was what Plaxico Burress thought when he witnessed the brutal injury. During an appearance on The Carton Show, he opened up about his thoughts on Chubb’s almost miraculous recovery.
“Everybody that saw that,” said Burress. “If you’re a player, you know what that meant for him and his playing career. Coming back to play that position -in the NFL. Let alone just walking normal, but for him to be out there working out and to bench 500 pounds 10 months … after that kinda ACL … that is absolutely unbelievable.” The disbelief doesn’t begin and end at Chubb’s gym video, however, as the 227-pound menace was reported to have stood up a mere 2 hours after the surgery.
The former Steelers star’s appreciation of Chubb’s feat was echoed by fans who were blown away by his sheer grit and determination. However, another former running back wasn’t too impressed and opined how the rigorous workout might not be the best for the athlete.
Le’Von Bell voices his doubts about Chubb’s heavy 540lb lift
When an emotional Chubb was wheeled off the field last season after suffering a knee injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers, it was a heartbreaking moment for his teammates and Browns fans. One of the most important parts of Cleveland’s offense had to miss the rest of the 2023 season. So when the running back posted an explosive video of him lifting almost 600 pounds in the gym, fans were bound to be stunned. Le’Von Bell, however, holds his reservations.

“Lol they lied and tricked us all thinking this is good for the body … it’s definitely not,” the former Steelers star wrote on X, referring to the workout video. A former running back himself, Bell also pointed out that while Chubb might be recovering fast, his body is still in “compensation” mode, and strenuous exercises like this could pose harm to the uninjured knee. “It’s very very slight but you can see while deep in his [Nick Chubb] squat, he has to shift his weight to the right just “slightly” which means his body is in “compensation mode” .. and as “athletes” doin it our entire lives, we’re taught to “ignore” it .. I hope the best for him this season.”
