Among the top 10 players, Josh Allen is recently ranked number 3, as per ESPN’s latest quarterback annual ranking. There is no doubt that the Buffalo Bills quarterback is arguably one of the best in the league, leading the team to reach the playoffs since he became a starter. But it seems that’s not enough for many analysts!

After ranking him third in the top 10 QB list, some of the surveys praised Allen’s arm throws and legs while others were comparatively down on the quarterback. The latest remark by an NFL executive in which he called the 28-year-old “one of the more overrated players in the NFL,” is making waves on the internet. So, is the remark on Allen true?

Josh Allen is overrated because of Patrick Mahomes?

The First Things First hosts, Nick Wright and Chris Broussard, believe that despite Allen being a good player, the NFL executive statement is “true.” Broussard commented on Allen’s standing (rank 3 as per ESPN) in the league, suggesting while some may view him as on par with Patrick Mahomes or even better, such assessments might overrate him. He acknowledged,He [Josh Allen] is ranked third on the poll. I could argue he could be second. You could argue he could be fourth. If you put Lamar [Jackson] and [Joe] Burrow ahead of so I think he’s where he’s at as long as you don’t.” Burrow is on second and Jackson is on fourth rank as per ESPN’s top 10 NFL ranking. “He [Allen] is not Patrick Mahomes [on rank 1], that’s his biggest problem now he is reckless” who makes turnovers (66.5 in 2023). However, his exceptional physical talents compensate for this flaw.

Despite not having MVP awards or a Super Bowl yet, Broussard also likened Allen to a modern-day Brett Favre due to his prolific touchdown numbers (167) and impact on the Buffalo Bills. This is because the Bills were a franchise that struggled to reach the playoffs before his arrival.

Now all these are comments that tried to justify Allen’s “overrated” remarks. In the meantime, there is another ESPN analyst who believes this statement to be absurd.

Josh Allen can reach the Super Bowl soon?

A veteran NFL executive recently criticized Bills quarterback Josh Allen, calling him “one of the more overrated players in the NFL.” However, he also pointed out that while Allen has immense talent, he also makes many mistakes. According to him, the 28-YO is “underdeveloped at winning at the line of scrimmage, locks on to targets, is more of a thrower than a precision passer, and forces throws into traffic.” This criticism sparked significant debate on social media, with many defending Allen. Former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky strongly disagreed with the executive’s assessment.

Orlovsky pointed out that Allen has one of the best turnovers. Lashing out at the remarks made by an NFL executive, he expressed, “He’s an idiot, that source. Respectfully. That’s moronic to say, first of all.” He pointed out that over the last four seasons, the only quarterback with a better turnover-to-touchdown ratio than Josh Allen is Patrick Mahomes. He emphasized that Allen is just a few plays away from having multiple Super Bowl appearances and possibly even wins. The executive also noted that the Bills have lost to KC three times in the playoffs, suggesting that Allen is on par with the best in the league, except for Mahomes.

As per stats, though Allen occasionally makes mistakes, he has become a much more refined passer (92.4 passer rating). Additionally, his arm talent allows him to make difficult throws, sometimes into tight coverage. So, perhaps, these statistics might allow analysts to re-think their statements.
