Are young NFL stars like Jordan Addison risking their careers with reckless behavior off the field?

Nothing is going right with the Minnesota Vikings’ players and the franchise. Earlier this month it was reported that the 2024 NFL Drafted CB Khyree Jackson lost his life in an overnight car crash. Now, Jackson’s other teammate is in trouble concerning an almost similar situation.

According to MLFootball on X, “If it’s true that Jordan Addison was driving under the influence just a week after his teammate was tragically killed by a drunk driver, his actions are DISGRACEFUL. Choosing to drive under the influence instead of calling a driver, is not just lazy, it is RISKING others LIVES.” Investigation suggests that this update is true.

And now as per the latest report from the OC Register’s Luca Evans, Vikings WR Addison “was arrested in Southern California on a DUI charge on Friday night.” Late on a Friday, Addison was “found asleep behind the wheel” of a white Rolls-Royce, which was blocking a freeway lane near Los Angeles International Airport.

As the situation looked suspicious, officers approached and conducted a DUI investigation. After having found him under the influence, they arrested Addison about half an hour later. However, the sophomore wide receiver was released from jail approximately two hours after his arrest.

Interestingly, this came after his July 2023 incident in which he was arrested after being cited for speeding and reckless driving. As per the reports, he was driving around 140 mph in a 55 mph zone in St. Paul, Minnesota. Later around 3 a.m. on July 20, 2023, Addison was pulled over and charged with the incident. However, that time too, he was released. When asked about the incident, the player admitted his mistake and expressed, “Yesterday morning I made a mistake and used poor judgment. I recognize and own that. I am going to learn from this and not repeat the behavior. I am truly sorry.”

Addison is expected to play behind “unwell” Justin Jefferson this season. Until now, the team hasn’t commented on the incident or taken any action against their No. 2 WR. But for Vikings, it might be difficult to ignore this, especially after Addison’s second arrest, as well as their rookie’s unfortunate death.

Khyree Jackson tragically died in a car accident alongside two former high school teammates. This accident occurred in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, involving three vehicles. Jackson, who was just 24-years-old, was a front-seat passenger in a Dodge Charger. And the vehicle was driven by his friend Isaiah Hazel, who was also killed in the accident. Their other teammate Anthony Lytton Jr. was in the rear seat, who succumbed to injuries later at the hospital. This unfortunate crash happened when a silver Infiniti attempted to change lanes at high speed, hitting the Charger and then another vehicle. As a result, the Charger veered off the road and hit several tree stumps, and thus the death and injuries happened. According to Maryland State Police, they suspected alcohol was a factor and are currently investigating further on the matter.

The Vikings, who drafted Jackson from the University of Oregon, expressed deep sorrow over his death. They issued a note saying, “We are deeply saddened by the news of Khyree’s passing. Khyree had an extremely bright future ahead of him as a player, and it was clear he was dedicated to being a tremendous person who made a positive difference in people’s lives.” In addition to that, the Vikings’ head coach Kevin O’Connell highlighted Jackson’s infectious energy and dedication to both football and personal growth. He expressed, “In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player.

Jackson was a standout player at Oregon. He earned first-team All-Pac 12 honors in his only season there. Now that he is gone, he will be remembered in the Vikings and Oregon’s chapter forever.
