Is Justin Herbert's injury the final nail in the coffin for the Chargers' playoff hopes?

The Bolts weren’t lightning this time vs the Steelers. They suffered their first defeat of the 2024 season with 20-10. But what worried everyone more was injuries to their players. The main among them was the quarterback, Justin Herbert. Steelers LB Elandon Roberts sacked him. Immediately, he was taken off the field and replaced by Taylor Heinicke.

The 3rd quarter visuals (of the QB) were concerning. Initially, they took him to the medical camp, and later, declared him questionable to return. NFL Network reporter Omar Ruiz reported that the quarterback was seen walking out of the stadium in a walking boot and had a sore leg. During the post-game conference, the QB said, “It had been getting sore up until that point and then you know I think that play, I can’t really remember what exactly happened to it but it must have gotten twisted again. Stood back and realized that I can’t move that great.

The game just drifted in Steelers’ favor once the QB was taken to the sidelines. When he was sacked, the scores were tied 10-10. But at the start of the 4th quarter, the Steelers outmaneuvered the Chargers’ defense and won the game by 20-10. The injury is giving nightmares to the team, particularly the coaching staff.

Though Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh doesn’t have an update on the injury, he said, “As soon as I saw Justin (Herbert) got up, first sign of any limp he was coming out of the game. I took him out.” That’s careful approach. In the week 2 game against the Carolina Panthers, Justin Herbert sprained his ankle.

It would be very devastating for the team if the QB’s injury gets re-aggravated. They can’t afford to lose so many players this early in the season.

The game against Steelers left the Chargers reeling with injuries to two more players. Left tackle Rashawn Slater was the first one to get injured. He first went to the sidelines in the 1st quarter. Then, he returned to the field at the start of the 2nd quarter. However, Steelers LB Nate Herbig beat him on the corner, following which the LT left the field. Later, the team announced his pectoral injury.

The 2nd player to get injured was linebacker Joey Bosa. He got injured while trying to rush the rival signal caller Justin Fields. The LB stayed on the sidelines for a few minutes before the team announced him questionable to return. He and Justin Herbert both were struggling with injury before the game. However, they both played in tonight’s game. But the Chargers couldn’t finish it the way they would have wanted. Now the pressure is on the veteran coach.

Can the Chargers ready their QB for the week 4 encounter against back-to-back Super Bowl Champions, the Chiefs? Injuries are piling up this season. Stay tuned while we bring more inside news from this developing story.
