Hey, so much water has flown under Dallas Bridge, right? Head coach Mike McCarthy‘s departure, Deion Sanders and Jerry Jones having interesting talks with each other, and Pete Carroll meeting Jones. But how does all this culminate? The Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hired a person from his comfort zone for the HC position—Brian Schottenheimer. Though he has no head coaching experience, Jerry is extremely confident about him. And as the former offensive coordinator took charge, there are a lot of updates that have encircled the Cowboys’ headquarters.
One of the important updates about Brian Schottenheimer is that the new HC has inducted important names for his staff. Dallas reporter Jon Machota has revealed that the Cowboys have hired Dave Borgonzi as their linebacker coach. The 42-year-old coach was an LB coach for the Indianapolis Colts from 2018 to 2021 and for the Chicago Bears from 2022 to 2024. The other two important positions Schottenheimer has filled are defensive line coach and defensive passing game coordinator. For these two important jobs, the chosen ones are Aaron Whitecotton and Andre Curtis.

To talk about the Dallas Cowboys’ newly hired defensive line coach, Whitecotton has tremendous experience in the field. He has already worked in the same position with the New York Jets from 2021 to 2024. For the Jets, Aaron Whitecotton has delivered a 23-45 record. He was also an assistant defensive line coach for the 49ers. And before that, he has worked with the Jaguars and Dolphins.
Andre Curtis has worked as a defensive passing game coordinator for the Seahawks (2018 to 2021). The 48-year-old VMI Keydets football alumni was also a safeties coach for the Chicago Bears since 2022 and now has this new opportunity at the Cowboys. His coaching career just took off after he won the Super Bowl (LXII) as a defensive quality control coach with the NY Giants.
But hold on… You know, before adding the above three key pieces to the puzzle, Schottenheimer and Jerry Jones actually shook the s–t out of NFL experts when they hired Nick Sorensen as their Special teams coordinator.

The Cowboys officially declared that they were hiring Sorensen as their special teams coordinator on January 28, 2025. What was most shocking about it was that there were little to no debates and drama regarding the appointment. To talk about Nick Sorensen, he was turned out by Kyle Shanahan‘s San Francisco 49ers just a day after they lost the season on January 5, 2025. He spent only a year in the franchise but was thrown out of the chair when the team couldn’t even qualify for the playoffs.
Before landing in San Francisco, The 46-year-old was a special teams coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars 2021 season. In fact, his coaching journey has involved many roles, like defensive coordinator, defensive assistant, special teams coach, assistant special teams coach, and secondary coach. Sorensen was secondary coach of the Seahawks from 2017 to 2019. Before he kicked off the coaching journey, Jerry Jones’ newly appointed special teams coach was a safety for the Browns, Dolphins, Rams, and Jaguars.
