Why is the media silent on Jay Cutler's arrest while Tyreek Hill's case made headlines?

The NFL world has been rocked by the frequent clashes with law enforcement. A few weeks back, Tyreek Hill was arrested while on his way to the season starter. Now, former quarterback Jay Cutler has been arrested in Franklin, Tennessee for possession of a handg– and DUI. Two other charges, failure to exercise due care and violation of implied consent law, were also put while arresting him.

When the receiver was arrested, he found support from his teammates and fans. Now, he is talking about the hypocrisy of media by referring to Cutler’s arrest and wrote on X (previously Twitter), “I don’t see no media outlets talking about what just happened with former QB.

Well, it can be said that Hill is still playing in the NFL and he was on his way to the game when it happened while Cutler retired 7 years back in 2017. However, one can argue that QB’s arrest wasn’t widely reported then, but as soon as the news went viral, many media outlets published reports about it. Here’s what we know about the situation.

On the evening of the 17th of October, he was stopped by Franklin Police officials for a check. During that, he was found to be driving while drunk. The former Dolphins quarterback was booked at Williamson County Jail at 6: 50 pm CDT. It’s unclear if his arrest was also violent like Tyreek Hill.

He stayed there for around 3 hours before posting a $5,000 bond, following which he was released at 9:59 pm CDT. In his mugshot, the former great looked understandably tired and frustrated. The ex-NFLer has given no public statement about his arrest.

Other details about the arrest are still awaiting. It’s interesting to note that unlike Cutler’s arrest Tyreek Hill was in full public spotlight and many people came out in his support.

What happened with the police officers who arrested Tyreek Hill?

When the receiver was on his way to the opening game against the Jaguars in his McLaren 720S, officials of Miami Dade County stopped him and arrested him. They later released him and he did play in the game, even scoring a touchdown and celebrating in the handcuffed pose. However, when the body cam footage was released, everyone had questions about the violent ways in which he was arrested.

Officer Manuel Batista was the one who pulled over Tyreek Hill and had an argument with him. Later, another officer, Danny Torres, was seen handcuffing him. Their actions received so much backlash that the department placed Torres on administrative leave. It was later reported that Torres had been suspended 6 times in his 27 years of service.

The WR also took a jibe at the police misconduct during the post-game conference and said, “What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill?” While the situation has eased down, the WR’s claims of hypocrisy seem far-fetched. Any player who is playing in the league usually receives more headlines than retired athletes.
