In June 2024, Trevor Lawrence signed a 5-year $275 million contract with $142 million in guaranteed money. The leader of Jacksonville Jaguars. Everything looked perfect during the training camp. The QB established himself as the commander of the locker room. During the preseason, they crushed their rivals and won all 3. But things are going south with the start of the season.
Jaguars sit 0-2 after losing the first 2 games of 2024. Veterans are blaming the QB for those defeats. Super Bowl winner Marshall Newhouse didn’t mince his words on Gojo And Golic Show and said, “It’s long been step-up time. He’s kind of just being the guy who is a liability. He has got the talent. He’s the guy they expect to be a game-changer, and he’s just not doing it.” He’s right there.

.@MNewhouse73 believes Trevor Lawrence isn’t living up to his hefty contract this season.
“He got paid as a quarterback who they expect to be able to lead them and be the reason they are winning these games, and he is doing the opposite.”@mikegolicjr | @golic |… pic.twitter.com/ae2xpfCltK

The Jaguars extended the contract as the QB had back-to-back 4000+ yards per season. Though the season has only started, the first 2 games have been rough. Trevor Lawrence only has 26 of 51 passes (51% completion percentage) with 382 yards and 1 touchdown. The more worrying part is the 7 sacks due to which they have lost 47 yards.
“Not only he’s not getting to the 2nd-3rd read consistently enough, but he’s making bad decisions on top of that. So the big a guy who’s making the money he’s making, that’s unacceptable.” These were the exact words of the ex-Super Bowl Champion. The team has to recollect their thoughts and redesign their plans if they want to turnaround the situation.
With the Pro Bowl at the center, they can still go for the win.

Trevor Lawrence taking inspiration from the losses
After 13-18 loss against Browns in week 2, the QB posted a photo on Instagram. The caption read, “Adversity is a great teacher. Don’t grow weary.” Is there a hidden message? Well, his career is slightly taking upward trajectory. In his rookie year, he had 3-14 win-loss record. In a 180 rotation move, he led the team to win 9 games and qualify for the playoffs in 2022. While he couldn’t replicate the same success in 2023 with 8-8 win-loss record, it’s crunch time he shifts his gears.
Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson is expecting a revival. And he believes that the leader of the turnaround will be Trevor Lawrence. When the quarterback said that they didn’t play to their full potential against Browns and was visibly shocked, the coach claimed it will be the mark of a true leader.

Pederson said, “That’s what you want from your leader. I don’t want anybody to sugarcoat anything. It may not be in his nature to do it, but you know what? He’s got to do it.” While he must be working on his approach and other factors, is the money factor putting undue pressure? $55 million per year puts him among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.
Duvals expect him to back himself and go all-in. And he is also getting ready for that. From here, the pressure will only increase with each game. Can he hold his ground and win the week 3 game against Bills? Stay tuned, we’ll bring more of such stories for you.
