Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs put a dagger into the Raiders’ hopes of making it to the playoffs last week. Getting the better of their divisional rivals yet again, the Chiefs move to 7-0 after 8 weeks of NFL action. But for a moment, the Chiefs Kingdom had their hearts pounding fast when they saw Mahomes injuring his ankle late in the first half.
Although he later popped up on the injury report, the Chiefs QB didn’t miss a snap last week, as he led the Chiefs from the front by finishing with 27-of-38 passes for 262 passing yards. Well, he even added two TDs, 17 rushing yards on six carries, and just an interception to end his outing in Kansas City. Additionally, some Chiefs fans could have been worried about seeing their Super Bowl-winning QB added to the injury report.
To their respite, Mahomes remained a full participant in practice this whole week. However, he had his ankle wrapped up for workouts, thereby indicating some precautionary measures taken during training. But he wasn’t the only player who returned to full practice as Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt is also set to return on the field.

Suffering from a quad injury, Hunt was limited in practice before Friday’s session. This would surely be a huge boost to the Chiefs’ offense, as Hunt recorded 90 touches, 348 yards, and four TDs over four games he played this season. Well, Mahomes can use his dual-threat capabilities to hurt the Bucs this week.
Considering no more last-minute setbacks if Patrick Mahomes manages to play against Baker Mayfield’s Bucs on Sunday, it would surely bring back some fond memories from the last time Mahomes and Mayfield came against each other in college.

Will Mahomes' ankle injury be the Achilles' heel for the Chiefs' perfect season?

You would have to go back eight years from today to the last time Mahomes and Mayfield played a clash for the ages. It was in 2016 when Mahomes Texas Tech University faced off against Mayfield’s University of Oklahoma. Although Oklahoma got the better of Texas Tech with a 66-59 victory, it was the battle of two future NFL QBs.

While Mayfield finished his day with an impressive seven TDs with 545 yards, Mahomes outshined him individually as he recorded five TDs with 734 passing yards. And now three-time Super Bowl Champion QB didn’t stop there as he racked up 85 rushing yards with two rushing TDs. Even though that wasn’t enough to give them the win, Mayfield’s team had to work their way to secure that victory, “We had to score every single drive in the second half to win that game. It was an unbelievable atmosphere. Just the back and forth is something that I will not forget.”
As for Mahomes, he remembers someone coming up to him and saying, “You have 77 pass attempts right now.” Although now Chiefs QB finished his outing with 88 pass attempts, he wasn’t really up for those stats. He only cared about victory, “I care about wins.” While Mayfield has since found his home in Florida, his rival, Mahomes, is a three-time Super Bowl Champion and two-time NFL MVP.
With them preparing to face off again, this clash would surely be the one to watch out this week. So, who do you think would win? Will it be Mayfield’s Bucs who have a point to prove this season? Or will it be Chiefs yet again as they continue their rampage week in and week out? Guess, we will find out on Sunday as attention turns towards Kansas City.
